I will continue to point out that once you make something optional at becomes the child's decision not the parent's decision.

So? No one will be wearing them by spring.

Because MCPS will be fully virtual again when Omicron 3 hits?

The US is 14% higher. Whoop dee doo.

Montgomery County residents eligible for vaccines are at 90% fully vaccinated.

For total population (including <5 yo) it is at 85%.

And I'm sure it's the same as in part's of Russia. Again, whoop dee doo.

Vaccines do not prevent infection. It's a reactive measure. After you've been infected, the hope is your immune system will recognize the virus, produce antibodies, in time before you can become seriously ill (with the hope you don't infect others in that time). It also looks like a fourth jab will be necessary for everyone?

No one can predict the future. All we can do is plan and prepare.

The question is why you're so eager to get rid of masks? Is it your anxiety? That masks are a symbol of fear to you? You want normalcy? Those are all understandable reasons. But why are you projecting these onto the children?

For me, it’s because I am tired of paying for speech therapy. If MCPS has no masks, the therapist there could actually do her job for my kid and others whose parents can’t afford private speech.

That's the first rational response that makes sense. Yes, that should be an exception as an accomodation for your child or the therapist, but why should the other non-speech therapy kids be subject to it?

Unless they're new variants for which the vaccines are ineffective.

https://www.syracuse.com/coronavirus/2022/02/new-covid-variant-may-be-spreading-among-rats-in-new-york-report.html

We don't know how many variants are out there, both here and abroad. Maybe covid is going to be totally over. But maybe not?

I guess the question is, would you rather pay a few bucks and have the kids keep wearing masks just in case, or just pretend like it's not your issue to solve?

I think it is actually the flip side -- those who want to keep masks are anxious. That said, yes, I want normalcy for my child. I want her to be able to play her sports without a mask. I want her to be able to see her friends and teachers smile. Even just the few who take their masks off. It is time.

Expect the anti-mask bots to step up their efforts as instructed by Cato et al. The goal is to make this a wedge issue for the next round of elections for BoE and other local positions. It's not about covid, it's about fearmongering and galvanizing their base.

Call them out for it.

Oh be real, it’s not the masks. Your child does not mask at home. We spent a small fortune pre Covid on speech therapy, Your kid may need it once they stop masking at school. And, there are low cost private options. And, Medicaid pays for therapy.
