A Rant about school start times and fitness classes

Anonymous
So, I'm just wondering if anyone else is suffering fitness-wise from the school start times that changed last year. My kid's school starts at 9:25. The bus comes at 9:10-9:15 or so. There is no way I can make it to my gym or a yoga studio or anywhere else in time for a 9:30 class. This past school year I was just barely able to eke out a decent workout schedule because there are a few 10:30 classes but I am bored with the schedule that I have done for a whole year and need some new classes/variety. Everywhere you look--exercise studios, yoga studios--it's all freaking 9:30 classes. Nobody has adjusted to the new school start times. Last year I was looking at taking some parenting classes at PEP and pointed out how all their am classes started at 9:30 despite the fact that half the elementary schools in MoCo were starting late. Sigh. This really sucks.

I thought this was going to be about how you didn't have time in the morning before work. Boo freaking hoo.

Go at the lunchtime classes or before the kids get up. Or put the kids in before care and get on with your day.

Write a comment card with your issue. You can't be the only one. My gym is very responsive to things like this, hence the 9:45 class start time.

You can't be serious.

Gotta love the support on DCUM! Lunch time is actually my toddler's nap so I can't go then. Can't put my older kid in before-care because he has multiple special needs. 9-11 is really the only time I can exercise and I like group exercise and it's what keeps me sane raising the aforementioned kid with multiple special needs. So yes this is an actual problem for me.

Get up and go early while your husband is still home. Most gyms have 6 AM classes. Or get a job and get a real problem.

Haha! Hilarious.

So say something to the class scheduler. Either your gym will be willing to look at scheduling across the board and see if a change is warranted, or you might need to find another gym that better accommodates your scheduling needs.

Yes, so she can then come on here and whine about how overweight she is?

This is OP. I'm going to keep playing because I can't believe how mean people are on DCUM. DH leaves for work at 5:30 and my gym is part of a big chain and will not alter classes in response to a request here or there. When I belonged to independently owned gyms this was more the norm. As I said, this was a rant/vent and it's in the fitness forum so addressed to other people who are similarly interested in working out. If you're jealous that I exercise in the first place go elsewhere.

Lol @ your last sentence. People who are devoted to exercise make time to make it work. And guess what - workout classes aren't the only game in town. You sound ridiculously spoiled, and frankly not like much of a true athlete.

It's great that you used this forum to rant/vent. Did you want a solution to your problem or just to complain?

Insanity at naptime, go in the evenings, a million options.
