A Rant about school start times and fitness classes

Try running. Or find a new gym.

There has to be a gym nearby with different class times, or suggest your gum change the times.

The struggle is real.

Find a gym that meets your needs of your current one doesn't.

Or hire a personal trainer and either have them come to your house or meet them at the gym at the time of your choosing.

DH leaves for work at 5:30 and my gym is part of a big chain and will not alter classes in response to a request here or there. When I belonged to independently owned gyms this was more the norm. As I said, this was a rant/vent and it's in the fitness forum so addressed to other people who are similarly interested in working out. If you're jealous that I exercise in the first place go elsewhere.

This couldn't be more of a first world problem. Sorry you can't find a class to attend during your six free hours a day.

Can you go to 9Round? I think it starts when you show up...

NP here. And this deserves to be dismissed because DCUM caters primarily to people in the developing world?

OP, I get your irritation. I second at least mentioning it to your gym and/or finding another that fits your schedule. Yes it's a minor annoyance in the grand scheme of things, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try to correct it if possible.

Anonymous wrote:Gotta love the support on DCUM! Lunch time is actually my toddler's nap so I can't go then. Can't put my older kid in before-care because he has multiple special needs. 9-11 is really the only time I can exercise and I like group exercise and it's what keeps me sane raising the aforementioned kid with multiple special needs. So yes this is an actual problem for me.

I work full time and have two kids - one in school and one with special needs - and I work out at home. Because even though group exercise would be lovely, I just can't make that work.

+1 Kudos to you for still exercising but recognizing your family's needs and priorities.

I've had the same frustrations, the classes always seem to be at odd hours... I used to stay home and wanted 9:30 or 10:00 AM classes and they were hard to find. Now I'm working and would love a 7:00AM class but they are all at 6:00 or 9:00AM. Never seems to work, so I do my own fitness but I know I don't kick my own butt the way instructors do.

Dammit I was going to say "this couldn't be more of a first world problem!" Pp beat me to it.
OP, I am interested in fitness. And my schedule is tight. But I make it work. It's not that difficult. You won't make the 9:30 classes. Find something else. You don't have a legitimate rant sorry. It's annoying.

Try finding a different gym or some other way to get your exercise in.

Where are you located? What gym do you currently go to?

So what if it is a "first world problem" - this is the first world, this is a discussion board based here. If you don't have anything constructive to say, then don't bother posting! Ugh.

If you don't have a legitimate problem to post then don't post. It is not a problem, and it obviously has not drawn any real sympathy. Sorry that generally everyone that replied thinks it is a sad attempt as a "look at me problem".

Why don't you lobby the school board and see if they cant change the school schedule to accommodate your struggle? Or better yet, just find something else to do or talk to your gym? Is this what your poor husband has to come home and listen to at dinner? How, while he is at work, your kids are at school you cant find a Zumba class?

Tell you what, instead of complaining about your "irritation" why don't you use your time constructively and help out in a soup kitchen, volunteer at a library or something else. Since clearly you live in the first world perhaps you should try and help those that may be less fortunate than you.

My gym shifted the opposite way. There used to be 10am classes, but a lot of parents complained about the dead time, so they moved them to 9:30. But where I live, school starts before 9.

Can you swap with another bus stop parent where a few days a week, you drop your child off with them in the morning a few minutes early and then you do the same for them on alternate days?
