A Rant about school start times and fitness classes

If you're jealous that I exercise in the first place go elsewhere.

I'm the PP who suggested writing a comment card. My gym (Lifetime) is also part of a chain and they're responsive to customer requests like this. Sounds like you need a new gym.

Yes, make the kid's day as long as possible away from home so that mom and dad can get to a fitness class.

She should probably petition Congress.

Get a jogging stroller. Put your younger kid in it. Walk older kid to the bus, then go for a run. Do a yoga DVD during naptime.

Another option: most gyms have classes in the evenings. If your husband leaves at 530 am, he should be home in time for you to make an evening class. Or put your kids in gym childcare while you take an evening class.

Do you not have a job??

My kids' school has started at 9am for the past 6 years. I WAH full-time and have plenty of exercise options.

I am creative. I can find spin classes, Pilates, barre, boot camp classes at 10:30. I can run outside or go to my gym any time of day and lift weights.

I will exercise outside during my kids' 90 min travel soccer practices.

Sorry about your Zumba--but in the 6 hours you have to yourself I'm sure you can come up with something?.

Why can't you go to any other class? There must be some class you can take while your kids are in school for 6 hrs.

Anonymous wrote:Gotta love the support on DCUM! Lunch time is actually my toddler's nap so I can't go then. Can't put my older kid in before-care because he has multiple special needs. 9-11 is really the only time I can exercise and I like group exercise and it's what keeps me sane raising the aforementioned kid with multiple special needs. So yes this is an actual problem for me.

I work full time and have two kids - one in school and one with special needs - and I work out at home. Because even though group exercise would be lovely, I just can't make that work.

Can you drop DS off at school rather than have him ride the bus?

Lol @ your last sentence. People who are devoted to exercise make time to make it work. And guess what - workout classes aren't the only game in town. You sound ridiculously spoiled, and frankly not like much of a true athlete.

This!

Lifetime in Potomac made this adjustment years ago for parents of elementary school kids with late start times. Our classes start at 9:45.

This happened to me. The classes that worked with my schedule were either cancelled or changed times. I still go to the gym, but either follow a you tube class work out, lift, or hit the treadmill. It's inconvenient, but that's life.
