The killers of Nykea Aldridge, Dwyane Wade’s cousin

The killers of this young mother of 4 were both recently released from prison on felony convictions.

Police charged two brothers who have deep ties to a gang with the shooting death of the cousin of Chicago Bulls star Dwyane Wade, officials said Sunday.

Nykea Aldridge, 32, a mother of four, was pushing a baby stroller Friday afternoon on Chicago's South Side when she was shot. Police said she was not the intended target of the shooting. Aldridge’s child was not struck by the gunfire.

Police said the two men charged with murder — Darwin Sorells, 26, and Derren Sorells, 22 — were both on parole and affiliated with the Gangster Disciples gang. They appeared in court Sunday and were ordered held without bail.

Derren Sorells was just released from prison two weeks before Friday's shooting. He was convicted in 2012 for a motor vehicle theft and escape from custody, but was released early. He had six felony arrests in his background. His brother Darwin Sorells was also on parole for a felony gun charge. He was sentenced to six years in prison in January 2013 and was released from prison earlier this year.

Police said the suspects were targeting a for-hire driver after exchanging unfriendly glances with the man as he drove in the neighborhood. The two later confronted the driver after he walked two women into their building, according to prosecutors. The driver told police the men menaced him and indicated they had guns. They then chased the driver as he ran away, with at least one of the men firing multiple shots that struck Aldridge.

The Chicago Police Chief’s comments were particularly poignant.
They are frustrated with having to arrest the same individuals for repeat offenses.

"This reprehensible act of violence is the example of why we need to change the way we treat habitual offenders in the city of Chicago," police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said. "When will enough be enough? This tragedy isn't just noteworthy because Ms. Aldridge has a famous family member. It's noteworthy because these two offenders are the prime examples of ... repeat gun offenders who don't care who they shoot."

I also found this fact outrageous:

Chicago has seen its murder toll skyrocket this year. The nation's third-largest city has recorded more homicides than New York and Los Angeles combined in 2016. Homicides were up nearly 50% for the first half of 2016 compared to the same period last year. Police have also already recovered 6,000 illegally possessed guns off the streets of Chicago this year.

We have to crack down on these violent repeat offenders.

Shame on Obama for leaving his "home town" in shambles.

Countless of our Democrat "led" cities are going down the tubes with the poor getting poorer, and people revolting with rage.

Time for a REAL change indeed.

I would have to read more, but it doesn't sound like either of them had a truly violent past. Criminal, felonious, but no mention of violence. Do you propose we lock up all non violent offenders forever?

Did it occur to you that maybe it was prison that turned them violent? It seems like a big jump from auto theft to murder, no?

Maybe they would have gotten their on their own, but we can't keep people in jail forever because they MIGHT someday turn to violent crime.

Why do you think they're raging, in the first place?

Well, you can blame Hillary for that - https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-politics/wp/2016/02/25/clinton-heckled-by-black-lives-matter-activist/

"They are often the kinds of kids that are called 'super-predators,' " Clinton said in 1996, at the height of anxiety during her husband's administration about high rates of crime and violence. "No conscience, no empathy, we can talk about why they ended up that way, but first we have to bring them to heel."

Right. Long past time for strict gun control. I'm glad conservatives finally agree. Chicago tried but Scalia knew better, as always. You do realize, however, that Obama wasn't the Mayor or even an Alderman? Obama also didn't design the programs which resulted in concentrations of poverty and lead to s culture violence. But please go ahead and tell us about all the things Obama should have done.

I don’t know.... these two guys sound fairly violent to me. At least one of them is also a gang member.

Darwin Sorrells, of the 7500 block of South Wentworth Avenue, served three years in state prison for 2013 convictions of receiving, possessing or selling a stolen vehicle and for unlawful use or possession of a firearm by a felon, according to Illinois Department of Corrections records. He was paroled in early February.

He also was convicted in 2011 of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. He was sentenced to five years on that charge. He also has felony convictions from 2007 for aggravated battery in a public place and aggravated battery causing great bodily harm.

Derren Sorrells, of the 6000 block of South Indiana Avenue, served four years in state prison for 2012 convictions of possession of a stolen vehicle and violating the terms of his electronic monitoring. He was paroled Aug. 12, according to the IDOC website. He also is a documented member of the Gangster Disciples, according to Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.

More comments from the police chief:

"Clearly, they don't think we're serious. Clearly, they don't think there's a consequence to their actions. And to be quite honest, we're showing them that there's not. If we're not going to keep you in jail because you choose to use a gun — then what are we doing?"

I fear that the “strict gun control” that you are talking about would leave weapons in the hands of criminals and law-abiding citizens would be left to their own devices.
These guys had ILLEGAL weapons. No "strict gun control" is going to stop that.

And yet with an illegal weapon in hand, every crime becomes more serious and with a longer prison sentence, no?

It SHOULD. But, as this police chief pointed out, it doesn’t. One of them had been imprisoned for an illegal weapons charge. Yet, they were still able to murder an innocent woman.

Rich liberals have left the poors far, far behind. But go ahead and put another in The White House. See where that gets you.

And a rich buffoon masquerading in his current avatar as a Republican is going to suddenly work miracles, right?

To be clear: one Republican is pissed because Obama isn't declaring martial law or something, but noting that Trump would be a 0.0% improvement is obsessive?

Here's another hint for you:
The Democrats are allowing the criminals to mow down the law-abiding citizens.
Their pattern is now well-established. Shame. Shame. Shame.
