USYS National League is also using that double standard Club and Team based league, with different ranks: Premier 1, 2 etc … If ECNL merges/absorbs USYS it will be really interesting. |
Actually, they measure weight, sitting height, standing height and take several photos that must be submitted to the league, including one comparing the players on the entire MLS team in birth order in a line so you can se relative size based upon age. They also take photos of the players’ necks to evaluate whether an Adam’s Apple is present. Most people here have no clue about the process. Some say you just have to be short, others say they are “giraffes” or “tallest on the field”. None of that is correct. |
| The Girls Academy League has initiated a review of our mission and values statement and in 2026 we will be updating our strategic plan. As we embark on this very important project hearing insights from you, our parents, will be very valuable. We've attached a brief survey that will be helpful as we focus on Phase 1 of this project, and we would greatly appreciate you taking a few moments to complete this. |
Explain to me how that would work. The reason leagues are club based not team based is so a single coach can coach multiple age groups. This is also why a club plays one other club each week in league. It allows one coach to have multiple teams. They just stay at the same field all day representing multiple teams from their club. If leagues were team based each team would need to have its own coach. Which would quadruple the costs for clubs and for each team. It would also make scheduling a nightmare. Sometimes the people that post here are just dumb. Its unfortunate because sometimes theres good information but most of the time its just garbage. |
You are ridiculious. Coaches will simply "cut out the cancer" and be done with you. Like all the over involved busy bodies eventually you'll piss off the wrong person and your kid will get benched or cut from the team. Unless your kid is a superstar which most likely they are not. |
We only measure standing height; no picture is taken. The procedure is very loose. The younger team coach emailed our team saying that he wants to biobanding, talk to him. So as long as you are short, you can bioband if you cannot get minutes in your team. We also have U18 playing down in U17. |
Wow, you are, in fact, a giant turd. |
Can you bioband all the way until you're U18? |
Both GA and ECNL already do this to a certain degree by offering extra events for teams/clubs that perform the best in their leagues. USYS was trying to replicate this. All of it is designed to protect big clubs AND dangle the "pathway" that the little club can somehow win big or advance. |
I thought the most they go is up to is U16 |
In SURF College Cup 2011 age group for example there were ECNL teams and MLS AD teams (Academy division - MLS 2). No actual MLS Next HG (top division teams). In one half of the bracket the MLS2 teams prevailed, and on the other half the ECNL teams prevailed. Same thing with 2010. Big deal - these are not MLS Next 1 teams losing to ECNL. https://public.totalglobalsports.com/public/event/4014/standings/33985 AND https://public.totalglobalsports.com/public/event/4014/standings/33980 |
| What does the Adam's apple have to do with anything? just curious. |
What club? For our club they told us MLS Next (HG at least) requires all of the measurements and the photo to be submitted and late developers to be approved by the league. Maybe MLS2 is more lenient? I'm not familiar with them. |
It indicates that puberty has occurred and certain levels of testosterone are present. So a kid is generally not a late developer if the Adam's apple is present. So many people hate the biobanding concept because it does generally take minutes from other kids but there really are checks and balances. It's not arbitrary who qualifies. Our U15 team had 2 gets get rejected by the league and they weren't allowed to bioband to U14 this year as a result. |
In Texas MLS1 teams lose to ECNL and ECNL RL teams all of the time. |
