Why did Arab majority Deerborn, Michigan go for Trump?

Because people who cut their noses off to spite their face are idiots.

Time to argue was before elections. Now that he IS our POTUS (like it or not), we all better hope for the best.

he will trash the US economy
he will allow netanayhu to eradicate palestinians

Is that what you were hoping for?

I'm a Harris voter and though I truly dislike Trump yet I refuse to believe there is no good in him. I hope for it to come out so he can make good decisions for all Americans, Muslim or not. He is likely in last decade of his life, wouldn't he want to help others before death catches up with him?

He is a malignant narcissist. There is literally no good in him, none.

LOL idiot. Let me break it down for you. They don’t want to vote for the person perpetuating genocide against their families. If someone was involved in a genocide that killed all of your family would you vote for them?Like many Americans they believe there are only two choices. So they voted for who they believed the lesser of two evils are. Trump was the first presidential candidate to visit Dearborn and his staff met with Arab Americans in Dearborn multiple times. Kamala refused to meet with her. So did her staff. She talked down to them. Told Arabs protesting genocide that “she’s speaking.” And then the dems sent Bill Clinton to lecture Arabs about how Judaea and Samara belong to the Jews because the Bible says so.

No. They voted for Trump because he and his team met with them. They did a lot of outreach and promised an end to the war. People who didn’t buy it voted for Stein and many didn’t vote at all.

I had empathy for Palestinians.

But this whole election debacle has just left me frustrated and drained on the whole thing. I once could have had solidarity with Dearborn Arabs, but no longer. Sorry, I just can't anymore. You're on your own.

Aaah yes. The racist Democrat. You only care about us when we vote for you. Sorry we can’t vote for the party who for an entire year committed and is continuing to commit genocide against our families. Some of us believed Trump when he told us that he will end the war (Kamala did no outreach to Arab Americans and instead sent Bill Clinton us that greater Israel belongs to the Jews and hence Israelis the Bible said so). The rest of us either voted for Stein or didn’t vote at all. Scratch a liberal find a fascist. Good riddance.

Yes Arabs are stupid racists. Anyone who didn’t vote for Kamala is a racist apparently.

The Middle Eastern community of SE MI is not a monolith, though.

I am from there, family still lives there. FWIW Most of the Lebanese I knew there were Christian not Muslim.

They have voted D and are became tired of not being heard. Ditto many of my Black neighbors. When are the Ds going to wake up? They are looking for someone who at least sees them even if they don’t help them. They are sending a message.

Being heard about what? Socially conservative issues? Like LGBT stuff? I’m not arguing with you - genuinely trying to clarify.

Being literally heard. Trump was the first presidential candidate to visit Dearborn. His team had several meetings with Arab American leaders and community members.

Middle Eastern ers are sexist. Any woman who agrees to wear A Burke contributes to the degradation of women.

So, in other words, they would never support a woman as president.

As the previous poster said, the Middle Eastern community of SE Michigan is not a monolith. But, the community in Dearborn, which this thread is about, is fairly liberal. The current mayor is Abdullah Hammoud, who is of Shia Muslim Lebanese heritage. He is a progressive Democrat and a Bernie Sanders supporter. He supports LGBT rights and would have no problem voting for a woman. He refused to meet with Trump and would not endorse Harris. His issue with Harris is her support for the wars in Gaza and Lebanon, not her gender.

Yes this. Although majority of Arab Americans are not socially liberal when it comes to lgbtq rights (Hammoud notwithstanding). But otherwise I agree with this

Can you name one thing that Biden didn't let Netanyahu do? Do you realize that on election day, the IDF announced that northern Gaza had been ethnically cleansed and that no Palestinians would be allowed to return? Is the blood of the Gazan children killed while Biden was president on your hands?

Also, as an earlier poster pointed out, many of the Dearborn Arabs are Christian.

Can you name what Trump won't let Netanyahu do? And do you think the IDF really cares whether they are firing on a Lebanese Christian community or a Lebanese Muslim community?

Idiotic point. Trump isn’t president yet. He made promises to the Arab community that the war would end. I didn’t believe him so I didn’t vote for him. Biden on the other hand is continuing to perpetuate a genocide against our people. I believe things will get worse. Not because of Trump. I think both parties have collectively decided to go all the way with this. The entire region will be engulfed in war and perhaps the world. It’s going to get worse and would have gotten worse under Kamala as well.
