Why did Arab majority Deerborn, Michigan go for Trump?

Trump will completely solve this pressing issue. He, nor his son in law, in no way, have previously noted that Gaza has “attractive beach front land” ripe for development. I’m sure Trump’s expert domestic policy will allow for a perfect resolution and that all Palestinians will return to their homes rebuilt and not to expensive beach condos. I’m sure Netanyahu and Trump will work hand in hand for a great resolution and that all those voters who abstained in Michigan or who voted for Trump will get the vote (or no vote) they deserve.

Can you name one thing that Biden didn't let Netanyahu do? Do you realize that on election day, the IDF announced that northern Gaza had been ethnically cleansed and that no Palestinians would be allowed to return? Is the blood of the Gazan children killed while Biden was president on your hands?

Also, as an earlier poster pointed out, many of the Dearborn Arabs are Christian.

Can you name what Trump won't let Netanyahu do? And do you think the IDF really cares whether they are firing on a Lebanese Christian community or a Lebanese Muslim community?

You are not following the conversation. The earlier poster said that Trump "will let Netanyahu do whatever he wants". I don't disagree with that, but I pointed out that the same is true for Biden and probably Harris as well. The poster also placed blame on "Dearborn Muslims" and I pointed out that there are also "Dearborn Christians" who are also Arab.

As I said earlier, Trump and Biden are equally bad when it comes to Netanyahu. But, Trump is at least promising to end the fighting and, as such, is a potentially better choice for those whose primary concern is ending the killing in the region.

We’re of Lebanese descent (some of us are Christian, some of us our Muslim). In my family, most of us voted for Stein. None of us expect Republicans to care about Arab lives, but I think most of us expect Democrats to care. Not voting for Harris was a punishment for the Democratic Party to show that Arab voices matter.

The Middle Eastern community of SE MI is not a monolith, though.

So, in other words, they would never support a woman as president.

As the previous poster said, the Middle Eastern community of SE Michigan is not a monolith. But, the community in Dearborn, which this thread is about, is fairly liberal. The current mayor is Abdullah Hammoud, who is of Shia Muslim Lebanese heritage. He is a progressive Democrat and a Bernie Sanders supporter. He supports LGBT rights and would have no problem voting for a woman. He refused to meet with Trump and would not endorse Harris. His issue with Harris is her support for the wars in Gaza and Lebanon, not her gender.

I am from there too. I don't think it is one thing. The girls in my high school were married at 17 or 18. They were not allowed to away to college so they commute to UofM Dearborn. The men are quite controlling. I cannot picture them voting for a woman president ever.

Sure, but you voted in someone who cares even less about your cause and Palestine, so, nice work playing yourself.

Maybe it’s because their community is older and more established and I guess “blended” in rather than assimilated. Frankly, there is a lot of distrust between the Middle Eastern Christians and Muslims in SE MI. I do wonder how that plays out on the national politics scene.

I wonder too.

When I was in grad school, the Arab male students would treat women like their servants in school and on trips. And you think they will vote for a woman president?

oh sweetheart- gaza is gone. the choice before me was a slow agonizing death by being burned to death or just blitzkrieg. This isnt a philosophical qustion its real- i had to choose between my family being killed by beingburned alive or a building falling down on them. I picked a building falling down on them.

Also Trump is really stingy - he will tell Israel to kill them quickly and fast and a quick death is better than a slow agonizing death. That is the only choice in front of us. Biden felt more pain looking at black and white photos of long dead children in Poland then he did looking at burned & starving children who he can save , b/c he doesnt actualy think they deseve to live the same way. They are the same as beef and chicken to him, its sad that the chicken has to die but die it must. If you must die, its best to die quickly. I dont think you understand teh psychological torture people have been under and how they yearn to end their sufferring., trump will end it faster. we just want it to stop and we are well aware that extermination is the only resolution. Biden/harris also support extermination or at least find it tolerable. Israel is the USA's most valuable ally- they could keep palestinian children in broithels as part of a sex tourism industry and we will still support them. Id rather the kids died, Allah is ever merciful and to Him is the final return.

A lot of Arab Americans, especially in Dearborn, are small business owners

Biden and Trump aren't "equally bad." You can't keep ignoring that Biden's options were limited due to the election.

Wow, yes how interesting that the Christian Lebanese are more “liberal minded” I wonder what ever could it be that is behind phenomena? A real mystery.

Yes, they’re stupid. Not sure on the racism claim. They voted to make life difficult here for a fantasy of the Trump administration’s “policy” on Palestine. Short sided and stupid.

Exactly. The religious groups hate women (evangelical, Orthodox Jews, and Muslims - all have questionable views/practices about women). The sooner we get people to abandoned religion the closer we will get to a better, more peaceful society.

It’s getting completely destroyed now.

Trump will end the war. Michigan delivered for him. Now it’s his time to deliver

Trump also promised to build a wall and that Mexico would pay for it. Trump is a pathological liar. Maybe people need to follow the conversations that go far beyond this one because there seems to be a ton of cluelessness and naivete flying around here.
