Every year this process is ridiculously stressful. My kid always makes a team eventually but is always the second string pick. She has been told by 4/5 teams she tried out for this year that she is their “first choice alternate” or “first on the waiting list if someone declines” or “first we will call if someone declines” but it’s now Tuesday morning and no one has called….

PP again with the DD who is always the “first choice alternate.”
If your kid is sitting on offers you probably won’t accept, please please please turn them down and notify them ASAP this morning! There are sooooo many girls waitlisted and panicked. This happens every year and I wish the league did this differently bc coaches are frustrated too by parents who do this |
That's the same old line club directors use all the time. Your DD may be on a waiting list or an alternate, but not "first". Heard this before personally and other parents too. |
We got an offer, but it is not from the club of choice. If we don't hear back from the club of choice, we will be sitting on the offer until 9:59PM. I wish there was a better way, but the club of choice is probably also waiting for another player to accept / decline (who waits to hear from their club of choice). I agree that this is less stressful than not having any offer. |
What could they possibly do differently, however? I am having a hard time imaging what a different way could look like. Do other regions do it different than CHRVA? I say this knowing it is stressful, but I can’t see a way to avoid that tbh. |
Maybe an earlier deadline for the top teams? My DD took an offer at deadline only to receive a better offer after deadline that she couldn’t accept. Really unfair. |
But how do you define "top teams"? Is it based on rankings or team #1 in a club? Adding a new layer of complexity on top of an already complex process will not help. |
Maybe clubs should provide a discount for those who accept by Monday at 10pm. Those who wait until Tuesday would have to pay more thereby providing an incentive to accept early and help those waiting at lower levels |
|
I am not sure how top teams could be defined, really. Sure, Metro Travel and Paramount 1s teams, but what about the Metro Regional (or now National), and Paramount 2’s teams? Some of them are great, while some of them are far below others 1s teams, and even for players getting offers from one of the 1’s teams, they may opt for another offer if playing time is a question mark. Some might consider MOCO, VAE, VAJrs, or MVSA, or so many others (I am just naming teams now) top teams, but others might not think so, for them. Top is really a personal determination, year over year, across all age groups.
I understand the frustration you feel, but in practice there is not a viable fix. For what it is worth, my experience with other sport’s competitive travel teams is not different. It is stressful and the offers process always adds to the stress. I think this is just how competitive sports are. |
This is an interesting idea! I suppose it would have to come at the CHRVA level across all clubs to work. Now watch the most expensive clubs jack the rates another $1000 to cover this. I’m looking at you, Virginia Elite. lol. 😆 |
This is a brilliant idea and would absolutely work and encourage parents to accept early. We know so many people sitting on multiple offers every year. I can understand sitting on one but 3 doesn’t seem right. |
Tuesday @ 10 rule was in place to give players enough time to make informed decisions and protect them from various types of pressure coming from the clubs. I don't think CHRVA will allow incentives to play a role, even though I may be wrong about that. |
My DD is getting *a lot* of pressure to accept an offer but she’s still waiting to hear from her club of choice where she’s on the waiting list. Like emails every few hours asking about status, phone calls, etc. It’s stressing her out. |
| Is it legal for clubs to rescind an offer? |
