Really interesting. Thanks for posting. I’m an OG female player- started mid 70s and played until early 90s. And I always had to do what my older brother was doing. He even broke my wrist with a shot when I refused to get out of goal when he warned me to. |
But don't female players themselves take umbrage at these types of suggestions? WNBA players always get mad when people suggest lowering the rim to 9 feet instead of 10. |
| Spain! |
| Selflessness, creativity, and one touch wins the World Cup. Imagine my surprise. |
| Viva Espana!! |
| Woot woot Spain!!! 🇪🇸💃⚽️🏆🥇🥇🥇 |
| On Pk she left the line early. |
Congratulations to the Spanish women on their well-deserved victory. It was an amazing World Cup. |

This was a few years ago...u15? I think Barca ended up beating the top 3 ranked club teams in the US. If you watched the game today it look very familiar. |
Can someone link the full article without a paywall? Does the author call out that, unlike most sports, soccer pitches can vary considerably within a legal range (like baseball outfields). Maybe women should just always play on the smallest regulation size pitch? I can totally see and agree with the ball argument. Isn’t a woman’s basketball smaller than a man’s? |
Smaller ball is harder to control. The thing with women’s/girl’s soccer is the speed of play(team wise) is slow. This allows for physical play to have a greater impact and why the women/girls game in the US puts so much emphasis on physical play. Bad first touch, have problems putting 2-3 passes together, lack of technical skills and being able to play in tight spaces. Unless things changed a smaller field and smaller ball means a more physical game and more injuries. The Spanish and Japanese games were less physical because they could move the ball before contact. So the other team has to chase and the press press mentality does not work. |
| Field should be smaller . . . Several weeks ago I wrote that my 13 year old pointed this out after watching 5 minutes of the WWC and someone on this blog commented that I was raising a sexist child. Hahahhaha. Gotta love the hypersensitive soccer fans. |
There is no need for smaller fields. The Spanish and English play a very entertaining game and as did other countries on a normal size field. The u littles play on a smaller and it is horrible soccer. Maybe that is what your DD is use to watching? The problem with the girls and women game in the US is the players do not watch soccer. You learn the game by playing and watching the professional plays. Talk to travel, college and pro coaches this is the what they will tell you. No one who actually involved or follows the women’s game is talking about making the field smaller. Sorry it is not sexist. |
| What a wonderful World Cup! The future of the game is in great hands (or feet, lol lol)! |
+ a million!! Great WC and fantastic final!! Congrats to Spain, much deserved win. |
