Women’s World Cup

How did Rapinoe make his roster? She was terrible last night, couldn’t complete a pass against an extremely weak Vietnam team. Hope that’s the last we see of her in this tournament.

Same reason Lloyd went to France (2019) and Wambach in 2015 and so on - high level tournament experience, guidance to young players on the roster, calming influence, kiss the babies and shake the hands.

When has the mens team ever succeeded?

Have the women succeeded at winning the men's World Cup? You know, the competition that drives the money.

I think the women have as many knock out stage wins in the mens world cup as the men do.

Now do appearances...

Now do Championships

Neither have won the Men's World Cup. What's your point?

Is Pinoe really a calming influence when she's such a media hound?

I think she's there for set pieces and potentially penalties, which is fine.

The interesting thing about this World Cup is the reactions on social media from mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging conservatives who a few months ago were very loudly demanding that the integrity of women’s sports be protected from transgender women. I guess their support for women’s sports is fickle. Kind of like that pesky pay issue.

It was kind of like watching Roy Kent before he hung it up and decided to coach.

Marketing. Rapinoe is very recognizable and the face of the team/women’s soccer. She was over the hill in ‘19 - out of position, slow, not getting back on defense and a turn over machine. Rapinoe is why Dunn plays defense and not offensive. They needed someone to cover for Rapinoe. They still win.

The US has a huge pool of players and I am sure there are other players who would preform better vs the older players but few would recognize them. Let’s see what the lineup is when they play the more competitive teams.

Seriously there is no one on the team or in US women’s soccer who could take a penalty kick or set pieces? Remember to take Pk or set pieces you have to be on the field. Should have brought she as an assistant coach and given the spot to a talented hungry player.

No, it’s true. The NY Post led this morning with which players sang the anthem. 🙄

The ugly truth of the matter is a lot of the players of that generation, including Rapinoe, are straight up about themselves and mask their greed and selfishness in talk about "development of the women's game". They should have stepped aside for younger players a while ago.

Yes but I can not fault a pro athlete from getting as much money as they can while playing. They all have a very short windows. This is more on the coach and US Soccer. Every roster spot on that team should not be guaranteed.

Sure, Rapinoe is on the roster for public recognition etc., but no reason she should have played 30 minutes. The whole team was painful to watch, but she brings no value on the pitch at this point. Any player should be able to serve a set piece or take a pk.
