As with the last balloon incident, they wanted to keep this under wraps too, but some "nosy" reporter asked Kirby about it at today's press briefing.
That's why it wasn't discussed until 11 minutes into the briefing. Had he wanted to talk about it, he would have led with it.

The last incident was only made public because of a sharp-eyed photographer in Montana......

But the nosy reporter got the story from somewhere. From the admin, from detractors? It’s still interesting and I’m intrigued by other’s thoughts. Thanks!

Probably from a source at the Pentagon.

Actually, the US shot it down on Trudeau's order.

Yeah, you're right, as part of NORAD air defense.

Once the government actually looked at various UFO reports by pilots, they realized something was there.

Regarding the object shot down yesterday, the pilots gave differing accounts:

Some pilots said the object “interfered with their sensors” on the planes, but not all pilots reported experiencing that.

Some pilots also claimed to have seen no identifiable propulsion on the object, and could not explain how it was staying in the air, despite the object cruising at an altitude of 40,000 feet.

The conflicting eyewitness accounts are partly why the Pentagon has been unable to fully explain what the object is, the source briefed on the matter said.

Just would like to note, several science fiction movies start this way.

One was amusing/funny.
Two of these is odd
Three of these? Something is definitely going on.

In my fictional world, I'd look for patterns.

Balloons can get very very accurate locations, intel data, etc. better than satellites can. I would check if any of the Chinese surveillance balloons were flying anywhere here:

I would also see if UN / DC Russian Diplomats, etc. are going on vacation soon (on cruises, overseas, etc.) and see if there are any patterns to people getting the hell out of Dodge or hooking up with US Government officials.

If they are, I'd recommend taking Russian nuclear first-strike threats seriously.

The first balloon basically went across all the minuteman sites

My two cents:

The Chinese are distracting us up north with these balloons.

The Chinese are established in the Caribbean, Africa and moving into south and Central America. When they do come, they won’t come across Canada.
