My DD started playing today...She went out for a walk and walked around 2-3 miles because of it. She said she only found one.. So how does it work? does anyone know?
When you

"catch" someone is it someone who is also playing the game?

There is another thread on this. The game is extremely popular in our neighborhood....all the kids are walking around. It's great.

OMG thank goodness this came out now in summer when 14 year old boys generally have too much free time. It's a waste of time but seems to keep them out of trouble. 14 yo DS has been playing it with friends - we live near a national park so there are more captures to be had there but they do it in the car, everywhere.

They should continue to pop up for your daughter even in the same locations from what I understand. There are articles and a pretty funny NPR piece.

I see packs of teen boys roaming around with their heads in their phones in our neighborhood. I'm sure it will catch on with some of the younger kids soon. Some 26 year old cause a horrible pile-up playing it while driving.

This TOTALLY explains why the teenager next door was walking the block last night in the dark staring at his phone .

My 11 year old DS just downloaded this game 2 hours ago and is running around the neighborhood trying to catch them!! Hilarious!

My 15 year old DS has been walking around and also using his bike, which he hasn't done in ages. He and other boys in the neighborhood get together every night and hunt for them. I'll take this over retreating to the basement to play xbox any day.

Pretty short lived fun since the servers can't keep up with traffic.

My kids haven't downloaded it, but my DH caught three Pokemon in Whole Foods.

You don't catch someone. They are virtual pokemon, not other players.

It's a Pokeman game/app. When you physically travel to certain locations, you can "catch" a Pokemon (an imaginary creature) in the game. If you have a camera on your phone, you can enable it so that the Pokemon appears on the camera screen as if it were in the real world.

It's based on the Pokemon cartoon series.

It's a sneaky way to get kids out of the house and exercising.

Thanks. Sounds interesting. Maybe I'll mention it to my DS who is 11.

You need an Android phone or an iPhone. You do need a data plan but typically you would have one for a smartphone.
