Building a 9000SF house without 2 story foyer, is that ok?

Anonymous
We are building a new home in McLean and opted for 10 foot ceilings and an extra bedroom instead of a 2 story foyer.

I noticed that all the new builds nearby don't have 2 story foyers until you get to the $4-5 million mark.

What does everyone think?

9000 square feet?

I hate two story foyers at any price range. They are not an inviting way to enter a home.

9000 including loft and basement (sorry not 9000 first and second)

That's a really small house. You may want to go to 16000 Square feet.

Our 5,000 SF house has a 2-story foyer. For a 9,000 SF house, I'd expect a 3-story foyer.

sounds ugly

Our house is 7500 SF and has a two story foyer. I like it as it feels very welcoming and open.

It's all about harmonious proportions. Nobody needs a two storey anything, but the entrance hall, as well as all the other rooms, need to be proportional to ceiling height, to make a pleasing volume.

Have you walked through a similar home and found it to be what you were looking for?
Don't build anything without experiencing for real what you're ordering.

We have a 2 story foyer right now and it's a smaller home (5000SF).

We were looking at the following and noticed most of the new homes in the 9000SF range don't have 2 story foyers

5000 square feet is small??? Try under 1200 square feet for small.

+1 At 16000 square feet at least you can have 20 bathrooms. What are you going to do if you have a guest, OP? You may have one someday.

At 9000 sq feet, I would expect their to at least be a turret. Or maybe a replica of the Red Keep. How else will you be able to look down on upon your vast kingdom?
Anonymous
I loathe two-story foyers.

Serious question, what are the average utility bills for a 5000 sq foot house? 9000 sq ft? How many separate HVAC zones would you need? I'm thinking at least 4 separate HVACs in a 9000 sq foot house.
