FCPS FEEDS Program

For those who might be interested or in need, FCPS is providing BBQ lunches throughout the summer at some locations.

Am I the only one who thinks this is ridiculous and a huge waste of FCPS funds?

I'm sure you are not. Lots of people don't realize that the only real food some kids in FCPS get is school lunch. That's why they send backpacks with food for them home on weekends. It's not like this is a social event at a Langley feeder. These are very high FARMS rate schools In places like Bailey's where many kids are on their own all day while their single parent mom works. It's hard for me to begrudge any kid 5 solid meals a week. This may be being done through the federal FARMS program. But even if it's my property tax dollars at work, I'm fine with it. People talk about not sending American money overseas when there are hungry people at home. Well, these are hungry kids who love a few mile from you. I imagine if you actually went to one of these schools at lunchtime and saw the kids, you'd grow some compassion. Or maybe not.

When was the last time you volunteered and gave to a local food program?

Yes, churches work with schools to provide those weekend backpacks. Do you think they should work separately, instead?

The fact that no application is necessary is evidence that meals will be given to ANY child, needy or not.
Don’t many of these “needy” students have families that get food subsidies as well?

The flyer doesn't say it's for needy children, they say it's for every child. Schools have movie nights and other social activities. Why shouldn't they have BBQ lunch?

Are the movie nights and other social events sponsored and paid for with taxpayer funds. Or, are they funded through PTA funding. I believe it is the latter.

The FEEDS program is a part of FCPS food service, so yes, it's paid for by taxpayers. It's only at certain ESs, so if you want to take your children by for a free lunch, go for it.

My issue with the program is that it is NOT just for those in need.

This is not the responsibility of the school system. period. The county, churches, nonprofits can step in.

Children's education is falling thru the cracks, that should be where the funds go, not to feed every family over the summer, on the weekends, etc.

Btw, what if a family can't afford soap and water? Should the school system be responsible for bathing all FARM kids?

Just another step in the government indoctrination of children.

Families will be destroyed as the children learn to rely on the government for everything.
