Jake Tapper is the first journalist to put Trump's feet to the fire

Anonymous
I am surprised I didn't see a thread about this interview, feel free to flag if this is redundant but that Jake Tapper interview yesterday finally exemplified Trump's steadfast obfuscation. He never answers questions yet no journalist has taken him to task, until yesterday. Jake Tapper has the patience of a saint and I have so much respect for him. I can't believe CNN did something right but they actually have a real journalist on staff finally. He asks Donald 23 times if his criticism of Judge Gonzalo Curiel was racist.

President Barack Obama took a shot at CNN anchor Jake Tapper during the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

"Jake Tapper left jounalism to join CNN"

That's not a swipe at Tapper, it's a swipe at CNN. If I recall that WHCD correctly, the President went on to make fun of CNN's breathless, ridiculous coverage of the missing Malaysian plane.

I agree. In comparison the president was complimenting Tapper and giving fair criticism to CNN. They have been notoriously bad in past years.

It's funny, I'm not a Trump supporter and I do think he's racist, but I think he did great in this interview. He was saying you can't have a thin skin and be as successful as he's been in different areas. He said the judge is being unfair to him because he's Of "Mexican heritage" and is probably against building a wall and doesn't like Trump or his politics. That's probably true. Tapper was trying to say "you're being racist because you're saying he's Mexican and can't do a good job because he's Mexican." Trump argued against that. He's not saying he's a bad judge because Mexican, but because he's being biased and not looking at the case in and of itself.

FIFY. There is no evidence that the judge is biased. Trump is the one who said the hispanics love him, so he is completely full of shit on this one.

Wow - do you even realize you just made the exact same racist assumption Trump has? "The judge is of Mexican decent therefore he is bias against Trump."

By that logic, every white male judge should be recused from any case involving anyone of color and all women.

1. You can be thin skinned and do as well as Trump has in real estate and self promotion.

2. What proof is there that this federal judge is influenced not by education and experience but by his heritage? How the hell did he become a federal judge if this is true?

Please give me an example of when this bias was proven.

If you believe anyone of Mexican heritage should recuse themselves from such a case, maybe you should be a Trump supporter, you sure sound like one.

When all else fails, deflect. You can't defend Trump, so you're grabbing at straws. Pathetic.

Bullshit. Basically, the argument you lied out above says the judge is inherently unfair because of his Mexican heritage. How is that not racist?

You find this interview to be funny? When a presidential candidate accuses a federal judge of "bias" because of his heritage you find it funny? Do you how many criminal cases judges handle where they are disgusted by the crime and yet they have to be fair in their judgement. If judges let their personal disgust (I am pretty sure a lot of judges are disgusted with Trump's antics irrespective of their cultural heritage) bias them for judgement, we would have a very sad judicial system. And to suggest that shows the contempt Trump has for law and order of the country. I am appalled that you would consider this anything but unacceptable!

Lawyers do it all the time in jury selections. You can't say race is not a factor anymore in people's opinions. It's reasonable to believe that this judge is biased against him.

The best way to get insight into another's beliefs is to look at how they see others - it turns out that our view of the world around us is a reflection of ourselves. Someone who sees kindness in others is probably kind themselves, if they see everyone else as scheming they are probably a bit Machiavellian themselves.

Trump's assumptions about Judge Curiel tell us nothing about the Judge, but a lot about how Trump operates in the world, and about how he would act if the roles were reversed.

Jesus Christ. The bar to become a federal judge is a lot effing higher than getting onto a jury.
