Take this with a grain of salt, but my friend who works at Gatehouse said that the redistricting plans in store for FCPS are going to be surprising to many.

I have no idea if the following is true or not, but I wanted to highlight some potential moves in the works. My source stated that some low-income schools will be moved to other low-income schools to muddy the waters on any criticism that FCPS is ONLY moving UMC kids to low-performing schools.

Potential Moves:

The entirety of Wakefield Forest ES will be moved from Frost/Woodson to Poe/Annandale. Not just those living on the east side of Wakefield Chapel Road.

Ravensworth ES will also be zoned out of LBSS to Annandale as well. To make room for this at Annandale and to supply Lewis with more students, Bren Mar Park ES and Weyanoke ES will be moved from Edison and AHS.

Willow Springs ES will be moved out of Johnson/Fairfax to Robinson. Waples Mill ES will entirely be moved into Fairfax and the Greenbriar East areas that feed into Fairfax will be moved to Oakton. Fairhill ES will also be moved into Fairfax.

Forestville ES will be moved to HMS/HHS.

Oak View ES will entirely move to Robo while Terra Centre will be switched to Lake Braddock.

Hunt Valley ES will be rezoned to Key/Lewis.

These are the major HS-related moves that will potentially occur. Keep in mind ES and MS boundaries will be tweaked to accommodate these moves.

My source could be completely wrong, so keep that in mind.

I am on the Boundary Review Committee. We haven't even started discussing any scenarios yet. We're still looking at all the comments from the community meetings.

The reality is the school board is going to make the decisions. So they may have already decided on the above and we're just "working" so it appears the community has input.

We just bought a home walking distance to Wakefield Forest Elementary and from our home to Woodson is half the distance from our home to Annandale High. If this is true, how in the world is this logical. With the current uncertainty facing federal government workforce and FCPS making unpredictable changes how can a middle class family in fed workforce make it through without a complete breakdown.

That sucks, but did you not realize the neighborhood could be rezoned to AHS? Fcps has been talking about redristrictibg for quite some time. Annandale is under capacity.

When you exclude the modular, which they supposedly want to do now (in the past modular space was treated the same as permanent seats), Annandale is about at full capacity (99%).

No updates.

Tysons island at Spring Hill could move to Langley. Timber Lane island could move to Falls Church. Westgate could be assigned 100% to McLean and Lemon Road 100% to Marshall.

All speculation but logical guesses. Moving Timber Lane island to Falls Church pulls most of the diversity out of McLean but sending the Marshall part of Westgate to McLean would add some diversity back. One issue is whether they’d split Pimmit Hills between Marshall and McLean to eliminate split feeders at Westgate and Lemon Road.

Note that this indicates that they likely have draft maps even before the final community feedback session. I think that’s a violation of 8130.

So if that list is partial, it looks like they may be moving 25% of ES to different pyramids all over the county.

That's absurd.

The community feedback matters not a bit. I bet they've had the maps drawn for months.

Chantilly is the most overcrowded HS, i donnt see anything related to that.

I think there could be something to this. Likely the leak doesn't care much about the west of FCPS.

There is no closer school for any Chantilly students. And, Chantilly has almost no new construction that is not closer to Westfield.

Agree that they've had maps/ideas all along and the community feedback is just to satiate people.

This map seems like a potential career killer for a lot of the politicians on the school board.

You know, in the June work session, Reid made an interesting on this. When asked about moving 6th out of middle, she said that she had the models and seemed like she would share them with the board. It struck me because it seemed like she was referring to running different scenarios already before the new policy was even enacted.
Anyway, this is from my memory so maybe I misinterpreted it, but it stood out to me at the time.

Gatehouse or Thru has entered the chat.

No, you are psychotic and paranoid.

Also people seem to be missing the fact that Forestville is out of Langley and may move to the Herndon pyramid.

Lady, that one has been talked about for at least 10 years. GOOD, it should go to Herndon based on where it's located. Anyone who bought in that boundary thinking they'd stay at Langley even before the comprehensive review was announced is a dumb SAHM married to a rich lawyer who doesn't give a crap about his children. Amirite?

This is the dumbest thread on DCUM.

Centre Ridge is most likely getting sent to Westfield HS to lower overcrowding at Chantilly. The Navy parts feeding into Chantilly are gonna be sent to Oakton as well.
Anonymous
Forestville ES to Herndon is just too easy for the board to do sadly. Much closer and you can easily draw the current boundary to include them. That’s a foregone conclusion. The other proposals are a little harder to do but the board will still most likely go through with it.

Nah, the bar is a lot lower than that. But this thread is a reflection of the deep fear and paranoia of MC and UMC families who are worried their kids are going to be sent to lower performing schools to hide the fact that the school system is failing to educate some kids.
