APS - School Shifts in the Fall?

APE has Bernie supporters, life long progressives and republicans. Stop trying to make this political or it will be used against us in elections. Do we want to really set our flag in the sand that all Dems don’t want school open for in person?

And no she didn’t just leave steering she left all of APE that day. It was an APE-wide debate. She ended up coming back to APE. Stop trying to make this something it’s not.

I’m not trying to make it anything. Not in any group, just trying to understand why it was too right-leaning for her, but not someone running for D endorsement. From what I’ve seen from the outside, the most rabid and vocal from the group (no idea who is or isn’t part of leadership), give off an R vibe.

You will note we don’t have it on our website nor our enewsletter - those are where you will find our efforts. Feel free to check it out! If folks want to pursue a recall (something allowed in a free democracy if a voter wants to pursue) that’s up to them. We also did not help nor support the lawsuit (again something one is free to do in America). We have addressed this about a thousand times and it’s getting extremely old. We also moderate our page and do not put up with bullying, harassment or any sort of doxing. That accusation also needs to stop. We wouldn’t allow someone to post memes of an apes yelling or jokes about people getting COVID like AEM, we don’t even allow screen shots of Twitter accounts. Our Twitter gets screen shot by trolls and then gross things like these people should just get au pairs are said and now screen shots of individuals discussing a perfectly legal (but not endorsed or run or planned by APE) effort and coming to this page to accuse us like we are planning some sort of insurrection need to take a deep breath. We write speeches, we send post cards, we do newsletters - we are not funded by outside sources. We care a lot, our kids are struggling, we are surrounded by open private schools and over 60% of the country open five days a week. We just want what they have. It’s not some deeper or scary conspiracy. But thanks for calling us scarily well run operation or whatever was said earlier, take it as a compliment. (And no we don’t do weekly meetings, ain’t nobody got time for that)

I will also note yet again that we have never advocated for virtual to go away this year. Virtual families are the ONLY ones who have gotten a choice. I’m quite sure if they had been forced back in, in the fall they would have advocated just like we did for our kids to have the choice of in-person.

Not in APE, but clapping. THANK YOU!

YES YES THank you!!!

I don't know why some people in here are so fixed on these weird issues.

I blame Trump for this nonsense. APS and every other liberal school district would have opened 2x a week in the fall and be open 5x a week now, but stupid Trump opened his mouth last summer and said he wanted schools open again and then it became partisan. Just like you can map vaccine doses with the vote, you can map school opening with the vote.

I wear a mask and I got my vaccine and I want schools open and I am not a republican. And APS is on-track to be one of the last districts in the country to re-open meaningfully, and that's sad for our children.

You can also map it out by people who believe in science and following CDC recommendations.

It wasn't Trump. We didn't have the data back then to know we could open safely (sorry, one daycare study wasn't sufficient). And we certainly didn't have vaccines, testing, PPE, etc.

Thank god we finally have all of that and our kids are back!

But our kids are not back! That's the point.

And check out the science-based recipe the local Catholic schools followed all year:
-- Require masks
-- Frequent sanitation (though we know now that mattered less)
-- Keeping students in learning pods
-- Requiring daily health checks
-- Quarantining classrooms and switching to virtual for 2 weeks if 1 student in a class test positive
-- Air filters in every classroom

And guess what? Miraculously, those schools have stayed open most of the year!

So you count 2 days a week as back? Mine is in HS and is only "back" one full day and one part day because not all his teachers came back.

"Quiet?" ROFL! All they've done is whine endlessly, b*tch incessantly, scream and stomp their feet all year long.

I hope if they refuse to abide by the rules of decorum, they kick them out on their ears.

parents are fed up and are not allowed to have dialogue at the meetings. The very least we can do is to clap in show of support for one another.. the SB silences support.

They have never allowed clapping, as you’d know if you ever paid attention before now.

Y'all they aren't doing their jobs or taking ownership over their decisions. A little civil disobedience is sometimes they way to show you're fed up. I'd also like to understand the reason for not identifying board members or APS staff by name in remarks. Is there skin really that thin that they can't be addressed? Have they heard of the first amendment? Of course, if you're doling out comments say Dr. Duran all you want!

You are starting to sound like the White parents in Boston during school desegregation. Really, if this is what has spurred you to action, and what you’re willing to become disobedient about THIS YEAR, you might need to take a long look in the mirror.

As far as I'm concerned, yelling at a nonnative speaker for going overtime is just as bad as SR's anti APE troll account. The amount of bullying among Arlington parents is just so unreal.

I'm sure Monique was about to cut her off, but the crowd intervened. It seems to bring Monique so much joy to cut people off from commenting.

You are very committed to pushing this false narrative.

You don’t know that it’s a “SR” account. Just that it’s someone who supports SR.

But, even if it's not an official SR account, it was clear from who shared it (BE) and who follows it (everyone SR) that SR implicitly supports bullying APE. If you are so anti-doxxing teachers, admins should take a clear stand on not doxxing people from APE too. But instead, the husband of a SR admin and constant AEM poster shared it to the world. Looks bad, doesn't it? The hypocrisy, like someone said above, is unreal.

But I don't like APE either. They need to sit down too, and let everyone have their turn without the screaming. It's not that big of a deal that someone went two seconds over. It would be nice if more speakers were allowed to at least finish their sentence before getting cut off.

It’s fair to call them out on sharing it but you can’t attribute it to them.

Well, people seem to be attributing APE husband's FOIA to his wife and Miranda, so *shrugs*

So, just because other people do it, that makes it OK? Grow a f-ing backbone.

Just because a supporter of a candidate or advocacy group does something, doesn't mean the candidate or advocacy group is responsible.

Stop trying to attribute them to SR....or Miranda.

BE, an active SR member married to an admin shared a deader than dead Twitter handle. It's his fault that SR members are even exposed as trolls. Go talk to him.

There are more obvious SR member APE trashing twitter handles. I just found @stararl. You're welcome.

DP. Mine aren’t, because they’re not allowed to go to school on Fridays.

It's pretty gross that the account claims "thank God trump is gone" and yet the most recent tweet "Does @Miranda4APS have any endorsements at all?" is about as Trumpity as it gets.

Everyone is behaving like such assholes. Please dial it back. This is supposed to be for our children...remember them???

Yes, you can gripe about him sharing it. But you can’t attribute it to him - or anyone really. It could be anyone who hates APE and support SR.

Yes, of course they’re “back”. We all wish they were all back 5 days but that’s not happening at the moment.

But my kids enter a school building every week.

You sound riDICKulous to say that they aren’t back.

Wow. How long did it take you to come up with that? Clever.

You are ridiculous if you can't distinguish between our children getting significant instruction time vs. breadcrumbs. Granted they were starving before ...
