Why is anyone even on this forum if they are not interested in feedback about this process? |
NNAT result came today .My daughter got 95 percentile .. waiting for Coget result. |
ugh, not you again. posting the same thing 100 times doesn't give it any more value. why you think anyone would take your response seriously is beyond me. |
http://www.fcps.edu/DIS/gt/faqs.html How can I prepare my child to take the tests? Can I see sample questions or practice sheets? Sample questions are practiced by students as part of the test preparation. Sample tests are not commercially available. The best test preparation is a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast. |
I can assure you there are parents doing a whole lot more than feeding a healthy breakfast in preparation for this testing! |
Absolutely! And the Central Selection Committee is very aware of this prepping for tests. That's part of the reason that the other elements of the screening package (including the GBRS) are given such weight -- to potentially offset high test scores that could be considered outliers from the rest of the screening package. |
New poster. Maybe. Well, I guess certainly, but I never realized it before reading here longgggg after my kid had taken the tests. And the vast majority are not. But in terms of prep, I do wish I had talked to my kid about the format of the test. In the second grade they read the CogAT to your child. This was very confusing for her. She does not process orally well at all and her CogAT scores were well below her NNAT score, which she said was like a puzzle and she really liked it LOL! So maybe I would have done something to prep her for that. Or maybe not. She was in the pool based on NNAT and now in the center. |
This is indeed the case. A number of parents from a certain part of the world (no, not India/Pakistan) had their kids take "GT classes" during summer vacation. These classes taught NNAT and CogAT test strategies and gave a number of mock tests to the kids. |
A lot of people wonder how Chinese parents raise such stereotypically successful kids. They wonder what these parents do to produce so many math whizzes and music prodigies, what it's like inside the family, and whether they could do it too. Read the whole story "Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior": http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704111504576059713528698754.html http://www.thesundaily.com/article.cfm?id=56499 |
there you have it - it's OK for the schools to prep the kids, and us parents are relegated to offering a good breakfast. why not ditch homework while we're at it? BTW i apologize to PP for my snide remarks. didn't know it's the schools that offered the dumb answer. |
A lot of people think that Parents pushing their kids into GT ( BTW, its been renamed as Advanced Academic Programs) is unfair. My son is getting bored at school. He can stay on a 500 piece puzzle longer than in his math class at school. Gone are the days, when a kid's potential is based on the standard curriculum What is wrong about parents seeking ore knoledge for their kids. Let me put this way. "Hey we are going to teach new and more advanced stuff and keep his mind occupied a lot longer. You dont have to spend any extra money. As a parent do you think you would want your kid to have that? If yes, we cannot afford to give everybody but one day hopefully the overall education will hit a high threshhold and we will give it to everyone. But at this point, we have a scheme. If you could satisfy the conditions we will give you for FREE". I am sure all of us want that for our kid. Knowledge has no limits. I am unable to give it all the time. If someone can, please. I wish all parents "GOOD LUCK". Dont let anybody tell you what you or your kid is capable of. |
I still laud the parents for investing in their kid's future. If somebody cares so much about their kid they should too. I personally think you can only push a kid to point beyond that it's the kid's own merit. If Chinese or for that matter Asians invest more time in their kid's future more power to them. One good thing out of this at least these folks would guarantee a more bright American future ( seriously in danger seeing China , India & other countries progress ) |
I HATE that freaking Chinese mother article. What a bunch of self righteous hooey. Yes, I know, but it is a judgement call ![]() |

why do you have so much 'hate'? if you could not beat them, join them. if you think that you have a better way of raising a happy, healthy and successful kid(s), please share with us. I would like to hear a different approach other than the one you hate. |
my son is in 1st grade and his NNATII score is 121 which is 90% . can he make into GT pool for next year?. |
