That's because the CA state legislature vigorously attacked refineries and gas stations. Gas stations were required to replace underground storage tanks or close. But the state stopped issuing permits for tank replacements so 500 gas stations closed in CA at the beginning of this year. CA has has a 60% reduction in gas refineries over the past three decades because environmental regulation. The true reason is to PUSH people into EVs. So when gas goes to $10 in CA, don't ask other states for more gas. BTW, have you ever seen an EV 18-wheeler delivery truck that requires diesel to move weight??? |
There are several gas stations in Bethesda and Chevy Chase charging that. |
$10 ? |
Good thing there’s only one state in the country. |
| I went to the gas station up the street (Bethesda) this morning, and they were out of everything except octane 91. Not sure if that means shortages are coming. No problem at another station nearby, though. |
| Crude oil will come down to $75 per barrel once the oil sands are tapped again. Unfortunately the gas at the station will stay high because of all the petrochemical plants that have taken damage. Even if the Strait opens today, gas at the pump is going to stay where it is. If the Strait doesn't open soon our big problem will be 10% food inflation. |
The Strait wont open soon. Trump f-ed us up going to war on Iran. He was clueless, like he always is. Now here we are. |
Last time I checked it was Israel that started the war. And it was Israel that broke the ceasefire in Lebanon. |
Are you saying that Hegseth took orders from Bibi? Because that’s the only way Israel could have started the war. I’ll give it to you that they broke the ceasefire in Lebanon. |
|
Please explain how Israel started the war.
I agree that they're pulling the strings but most of the world sees the US as the instigators. |
There are regional shortages, but it could also be that this particular gas station is losing money or breaking even on gas due to prices, so they will make money selling food etc until they can figure out what to do. |
Nope. California has a much higher gas tax vs other states at 70.9 cents. California because of smog pollution problems requires a special blend that burns cleaner. The first major smog crisis occurred in 1943 in Los Angeles, reducing visibility to a few city blocks and inducing a "serious menace" to health. In 1956, over 40% of L.A. doctors advised patients to leave the city to escape the pollution. This blend is more expensive because no other state requires it. There are no gas pipelines from the Texas and Louisiana. This requires shipping it in which raise costs. EV heavy duty semis are a reality and save huge amounts of money. The port of Los Angeles is currently converting to EVs and they save $500,000 per truck of 5 years. Box trucks like the ones FedEx use save about $14,000 a year. This does not include the maintenance cost which save an additional 40-50% per year. |
The last tanker of middle east oil was supposed to arrive around now, so yes, it's very possible it is shortage related. |
They are also taking refined products like gas and diesel. Prices are going to really take off now. Oh and all that oil released from the SPR can be shipped overseas including to China. Thanks republicans! |
Yup. Oil is a global market sold to the highest bidder. Which right now happens to be places overseas. |
