And in your opinion, when and why does change happen? |
If by some chance you think these laws exist in order to oppress, surely you would think they should be overturned. |
This city doesn't have equity so the idea that these Lafayette families are suffering because of too much equity in DC is laughable if it weren't so enraging. I know nothing of anyone involved beyond what they've chosen to say publicly but the general idea that wealthy white Ward 3 families cannot abuse or neglect their children is racist and classist. You are correct that many other parents use similar arguments, some rooted in cultural and religious beliefs as well, and the same families stomping their feet here would absolutely look down on those groups for not sending their kids to school. The purpose of CPS is to investigate any allegations. And the idea that these allegations are just coming from the Chancellor himself because he's mad people went to the news is ridiculous. Bowser has bent over backwards for Ward 3 and certain areas (read her own) of Ward 4. |
We get it you think you're the victim of reverse racism because as a white person you believe the default should always be listen to you. Because I bet you don't have the same concerns the city should listen to and work with Black and Hispanic parents. |
The city council has a $357m budget hole thanks to House Republicans so if this is anywhere near their priority list the truth will be that they ONLY care about appeasing UNW white moms. |
Back when Relisha Rudd went missing, DCPS was questioned for why they did not report.
The rules changes - but through COVID they became lax again. The rules are there to protect the children of the city and CPS investigates. It may not be perfect - but you want DCPS to follow the established guidelines as opposed the there being major gaps. |
Do you mean that family was threatened multiple times? Or that multiple families were threatened? Because any family that doesn't have their school aged kid in a school should be threatened. They are literally breaking the law. I have sympathy if they truly didn't realize that (and I can see how that could happen moving jurisdictions with an, e.g., September birthday), but they can enroll at their IB at any time, so there is a very very easy way to fix this problem. |
The kids were in school, they were enrolled in pre-kindergarten. The schools reported these kids to protective services, despite having knowledge they were in school. Let’s be real here, it wasn’t out of concern for the kids, it was meant to punish the parents. Sorry, but these people should not work in education and should be fired. That’s what the bill is supposed to prevent, they specifically stated that the new policy is the school can’t report to CPS students enrolled in preK. |
Señora Karen, mucho gusto! We meet again in this thread! Your concern about Hispanic kids falls flat, you’re just a striver parent that uses equity language to get most advantages for her kids. |
If you know how school faculty and staff are trained it’s to report any concerns of neglect or abuse. Examples are outlined in these trainings. It is also made very clear that it is not up to faculty and staff to determine if it is actual neglect or abuse. That investigation is up to CPS. You can now put your comments to rest because you don’t know what the protocols are for school based personnel. Or the threats that are made to them if they don’t report these situations. |
The allegations of child neglect are coming directly from the school chancellor. This is a tweet from Eric Goulet, school board representative: @DCPSChancellor tried to tell me he had no choice because he’s a mandatory reporter for truancy. Yet this 5-year-old child is attending a 5-day-per-week pre-k school. Further, the 2 cases of CPS reporting “coincidentally” both occurred when parents pushed back on DCPS. Why are these people leading the school district? The hypocrisy is breathtaking, and they should absolutely resign. CPS reporting is enforced selectively to parents that disagree with the chancellor. |
We know the district selectively reported two parents that disagreed with their kids placement. That was very stupid of them and I hope the parents sue the district for harassment. |
I love the assumption that a) only one person disagrees with you, and b) that everyone who disagrees with you is using it to get ahead themselves. I'm not even sure how this would advantage my own kids. It wasn't lost that you ignored other posters comments about majority Black constituents in Wards 7 & 8, though. |
You have FOIA'd documentation that says that DCPS only reported students because they disliked their parents? Like it says that was the reason and not that put themselves into the news and now the school district was made aware? If you have that proof yeah I agree they shouldn't use political power against individual families. They do though by law have to investigate families that don't send their kids to school. |
Do you not know how to read? The kid was in school, he was in pre-kindergarten! Obviously I don’t have FOIA documentation, but circumstantial evidence points towards a school abuse. Should I go by your rambling speculations, or a public statement from a school board member who is also a lawyer? I said it multiple times, nobody cares what you personally think. |
