Was Israel on the list? I know Russia and Belarus was missing, but I didn’t think trump would tariff Israel. I missed it.

There is no fixing it now, that's why all the political elite are building doomsday bunkers in New Zealand and Hawaii, hoping to avoid the collapse and the masses.

Hardly. The u.s. economy is the envy of the world. It’s amazing that we had a soft landing and not the recession everyone expected.

We’re taking off again and the next landing won’t garner any applause for the pilot

Why aren't Democrats supporting tariffs?

Because they HAVE TO OBJECT to everything Trump does.

Every country has been offering to negotiate all along. It didn't stop this stupidity.

I think some will most definitely support imposing this particular tariff if it turns out those penguins were also on the Enola Gay:

Why does Trump keep confusing trade imbalances with tariffs? Just non-sense to fuel his endless, toxic need for attention.

He wants the thrill of leaders groveling to him on international news.

“Lesotho—which sends the US about $350M in goods—will see the highest tariff, at 50%.” Here’s the full list:

The country that Trump claimed to know something about in his SOTU speech but mispronounced.

Because we like free trade. It encourages competition. It also helps our diplomacy, soft power made us rich and influential.

There are other mechanisms that the government uses to help industries like antidumping measures. If an item is “dumped” with too low prices in the US market, the industry can file suit. We go to the country, examine their books, and the create a rate for the country based on those books. Other countries may be in it, so they would get their rate, based on the average of their books. (They usually examine several companies, usually top producers.)

Also, expect price gouging. Trade helped keep the US market from price gouging. If you expect these billionaires to do the right thing, look at the prices of things that we don’t get from overseas: banking rates, cable channels, water, electricity (in some markets), media, etc.

Competition is good for consumers. Take the lightbulb. US manufacturers thought their product was too good, so the competition came together and decided that they would all like to see more $$, so they changed the filament to make it wear out faster. So you’d have to buy more. Planned obsolescence was invented. If one company doesn’t do engage in such a manipulative practice, then you have a choice as a consumer.

I’m sure the black market will increase. Consumers are already unwittingly buying fakes all over Amazon. Amazon doesn’t care and hasn’t stopped it because the make $$$$ from fakes.

Yes we are. This is the stupidest assemblage ( none of them would know that word) that we have ever witnessed in politics. I just shake my head whenerver anyone in this administration speaks.

It is incredibly stupid. Hard to figure out how these people think they will benefit from this.

Well, for the billionaires, it's good. They set up a huge regressive tax, so that the government raises more money while reducing the already low taxes on the uber-wealthy. A Liberating Day for the 0.01%!

Bingo. The Republicans have always hated the regressive tax system we have and wanted a flat tax. That wasn’t going anywhere but tariffs gets us closer. Hard to understand Trumps base which is going to get hurt the most.
