Yes we are. This is the stupidest assemblage ( none of them would know that word) that we have ever witnessed in politics. I just shake my head whenerver anyone in this administration speaks.

It is incredibly stupid. Hard to figure out how these people think they will benefit from this.

This is astounding. It feels like someone assigned a aide to take care of this small detail an hour before trump’s speech, and this aide, who has a degree in government studies or sociology, did a quick google search and then broke out Microsoft excel and made a column for “tariffs”.

Well, for the billionaires, it's good. They set up a huge regressive tax, so that the government raises more money while reducing the already low taxes on the uber-wealthy. A Liberating Day for the 0.01%!

Increasing the cost of imports will decrease the amount of imports we buy, and will make locally produced products more competitive.

Maybe Democrats should have focused on policies that US voters want.

Like mandate e-verify, which Democrats refuse to do

Is this really IT? Any other reasons? Because this has nothing to do with e-verify, and anyone with a modicum of foresight could see that it won't have the effect of making locally produced products more competitive. What REAL reasons exist for Trump supporters to want this? I legitimately want to understand and the above is too nonsensical to be a reason.

If products become (even) more expensive, coupled with corporate reform to encourage long term planning and reinvestment rather than focus on quarterly profit and capping CEO pay, so that real wages increase and the wealth inequality is reduced, we could all get on board.

But we all know that the higher prices will not translate into real wage growth. People will just become (even more) poorer.

Thanks Trump.

GOP Senators Collins, McConnell, Murkowski, and Paul voted in favor. Not voting: Marshall.

Holy crap I knew those four voted for it but I didn’t know it passed! Too bad the House won’t touch it with a ten foot pole.

Oooh maybe not

Israel is dropping tariffs. Vietnam as well.
And Thailand is negotiating.

Israel dropped tariffs BEFORE today hoping to not get tariffed but Trump still hit them with 17%.

I can’t fully but I do think this only affects the Canada and Mexico tariffs.
