She spun that from what we all know- this kid has a Twitter account fascinated with violence and robbery from years ago and he has a gun that looks like a 9mm which mommy angel didn't know about in their small apartment ? Either she did know or she's a negligent parent. I go through my kids stuff regularly. Of he really has a learning disability he wouldn't be savvy enough to hide a "gun" in an apartment.
And this bs about him just being down town and trying to fit innwhen he saw trouble breaking out is some Kyle Rittenhouse level of deception. My kids try to fit in too. They don't beinf "guns" to down town Bethesda to try to fit in!!

And they moved from white oak to get away from the problems?

Bish, you are the problem.

The twitter account gets me, as a parent. It wasn't a hidden account. It has his name on it. How did mom not see it? I check my kids social media pretty often. If I saw the violence fascinating the account would have been deleted and he would be in therapy. None of what we know as fact jibes with the sweet innocent routine she's giving in court.

How often do you go on Twitter and look for your kids names?

It hasn’t been active since 2021.

So he was 14 in 2021 and she still wasn't checking? Are people seriously allowing their kids online and not checking on them?? He could have been talking to predators. Wow.

Checking what exactly? He could have created it on the schools computer. Do you know how Twitter works?

It was never active at all. A handful of tweets, a handful of likes. But somehow that is supposed to provide a comprehensive insight into the character of a teenager.

Not comprehensive but absolutely insight. You would never see any of my boys calling a kid getting slammed to a pavement "satisfying " nor liking and tweeting kids being robbed and a melee of violence.

Every parent would like to believe this is true. But teenagers on social media can make bad decisions. (Also non-teenagers.)

Except in this case it translated to real life. Stop pretending this is normal teen behavior.

As others have commented, having critical staffing assigned in MCPS is rare (what others are referring to as an IEP aide--based on the language from the article).

I'm inclined to believe that is an error on the part of the Wash Post and that the mother may have referenced receiving support in school as a result of an IEP. This support is often provided by paraeducators, but it does not mean that this is 1-1 support as the article suggests.

It's not impossible that he has critical staffing, but it's highly unlikely.

+1 I absolutely understand a parent's love, and can empathize with this mother who seems to have sacrificed a lot in terms of community in order to attempt to give her kids a safer neighborhood and a higher performing peer group.

However, that quote was whiplash inducing for any of us who have dealt with attempting to get supports in school, or even witnessed other parents trying to get that support.

Schools do not assign one to one aides in HS for processing disorders or speech delays. They do it either because the child has needs that get in the way of self-care or communication, or because the child otherwise poses a danger to classmates.

For speech issues you are lucky if you get 1-2 times a week speech therapy. When they hit age five or so it’s no longer a delay, but a disorder but those issues do not cause that kind of behavior.

Exactly. And thanks to the judge, we’re to believe that the mother can suddenly control him now that he’s posted $10k in bail.

Effing ridiculous. “He’s just misunderstood!”

The article didn't suggest he has a 1-1. That was invented by DCUM commenters. The article said he has "an IEP aide", not "1-1". Lots of kids have that.

He is. Poor baby and it caused the kick the ever loving s#@! out of another child. Maybe he just needs more supports

5 people were arrested. Why all this focus on 1 of them?

????. You go to Twitter, Instagram, etc and put your kids name in. See if any of the results are your kids account. This isn't rocket science. If you can't even check on your kids most basic social media, you're doing it wrong .

No duh. That's why you go check up on them. We randomly found the kids account by searching his name (not me, another by er poster).
You don't think his mother could have done the same thing at any point ?????

I think it’s because he’s the only named aggressor and he’s being charged as an adult.

Is it some open secret amongst the BCC students on the identity of these other teenagers? WaPo article suggests they all knew each other. The parents behind these kids should be outed and seriously shammed.
