While I loved the show, and loved the ending, I think this season they tried to jam in too much and added so many more storylines of the secondary characters so it all got diluted. I would have preferred more Sam, more Beard, more Rebecca. Less Nate, less Colin and less Keely and her love life.

Funny but Nate, Trent, Sam are my favorite characters. I hated more than anything that Pep and Man City were featured on the show. It's so bandwagonny and if you know anything about Pep, he is the exact opposite of Ted and is not a good guy. They team is going to be penalized next season for the years of cheating that was uncovered. I wish there was more about soccer.

I loved that Rebecca ran in to the cool Dane.

DP. Ok - you think it was a bad season, many of us do not. No one is "making excuses" - you simply don't want to acknowledge that a lot of us thought it was a great season.

I do think it’s strange that someone can’t see the difference in quality between seasons 1 and 3. But I think my issue is more that you were talking down to those of us who felt disappointed, like we just don’t understand that it’s high art. Good storytelling is good storytelling regardless of whether they’re writing from a “thematic perspective.”

I mean, I couldn’t wait to share Ted Lasso with my dad when I visited him this winter. (They don’t subscribe to all the things.) I was like, you HAVE to see this show—you will love it! And he did. We binged the whole season (and most of season 2), and it was really great because it’s hard to find a show to watch together.

But I’ll tell him to skip season 3. It was so uneven I just don’t think he’ll enjoy it. And that’s kind of a bummer, because Lasso was just this fantastic show with something for everyone.

You're talking to different people - note the "DP" before my post. I never claimed Ted Lasso was "high art" and I certainly wasn't talking down to anyone. I was merely stating that many of us thought season 3 was great. You didn't. Agree to disagree and move on. Also, I hope your dad doesn't take your advice to skip season 3 simply because *you* didn't like it.

I absolutely hate it when people deign to tell me what is and isn't worth watching.

My parents are very frugal and will ask for my opinion on whether to purchase, but they can obviously do whatever they want.

The crotch shot was a callback to the first episode when Rebecca fired him.

Ted Lasso has since season 1 done a great job including insider nods and references to actual Premier League teams, players, traditions, etc. that long time fans would easily pick up on.

Why so down on Pep, PP? He does not have a reputation as a bad guy at all. Now, I obviously don't know him personally so I have no idea what kind of person he really is, but he's seemingly well-loved by his players and former players, and is popular with players and managers from other teams. He's gracious in his media obligations and is well-liked by reporters for giving candid and interesting press conferences. He very clearly has a sense of humor. Some top-level managers have a reputation (fairly or unfairly) for being difficult and obnoxious, but Pep isn't one of them.

The current Premier League charges against Manchester City (Pep's team) haven't yet been proven, and may never be. Similar charges against the club by UEFA were ultimately dismissed as unproven. But regardless of the merits, the charges are complex financial and accounting charges and have nothing to do with Pep. He's not implicated and neither are his players, and there are no playing-related allegations. Pep is not responsible for negotiating Manchester City's sponsorship deals and accounting for the resulting revenue.

Is Pep like Ted Lasso in being more interested in the personal well-being of his players than in winning? Of course not. And neither is any other Premier League manager or professional coach. There is a reason why Ted is a (much-loved) fictional character!

As a big fan of the Premier League, I love the little nods to real Premier League teams and players that have appeared throughout the three seasons of Ted Lasso. Like the bubbles at West Ham matches, Crystal Palace's Selhurst Park stadium as AFC Richmond's stadium, Roy Kent as Roy Keane, and Zava as Zlatan. And I liked Pep's cameo at Etihad Stadium!

I think part of what they were doing there was trying to show that Rupert is still Rupert, but also to show that to some degree he's playing a role that is a response to how others view him and expect him to act. They definitely made an effort to create some empathy for him as the crowd starts changing "wanker" at him -- they cut to Ted and Rebecca both looking uncomfortable and probably recognizing how hard that would feel. But then with the joke about the coach's junk hanging out of his shorts and quickly returning to play, they didn't quite pull it off.

I feel like they were trying to flesh out Rupert's character all season in this way, showing him sometimes being kind to Rebecca, or helping Nate find some confidence. But obviously he is also shown doing terrible things to both of them, and others. I think it was an interesting idea but not quite fully executed, which is how I feel about a bunch of stuff on the show this season. It's like they needed a few more episodes, honestly.

Definitely. I didn’t pick up on all the callbacks but that was definitely one. Also loved that Ted recognized that someone was offsides so he finally figured out what that means.
