I've seen a few of these invites come across our listserve and I'm perplexed about why these people think anyone who's not already connected to the school or high on the wait list would want to attend.
Is anyone going to a gala for a school because they saw it advertised on a listserve? |
| I agree. I wouldn't go to another school's gala. I may purchase via online auction especially for my neighborhood school (we are at charter). |
| I'm a teacher. I have friends who attend galas and auctions for multiple schools because they know students or staff and want to support those communities. |
| I would go if I were considering switching schools. |
| My kids are at a charter, but I've gone to the neighborhood DCPS fundraiser. We have lots of friends whose kids go there so it's a neighborhood event. |

Even if no one from these listservs attends it is good public relations to let the surrounding community know that presumably positive things are happening at a school.

+1. Especially for "rising" schools that are trying to attract IB families. |
We get it. The whole world revolves around you and your kid and no one else and nothing else matters. And clearly supporting another school, or a teacher, to friend or neighborhood school isn't on your list of "to do's". |
| I have a group of friends and we've gone to each other's events. We like auctions so it's a fun night out for us and we get to support each other's kids. |
+1. |
| I've been to other school's galas to support my friends who were running them. |
| Hell, I bought tickets to our schools gala because I felt obligated. I kind of doubt we will go. |
| I'm going to Shepherd's gala even though my kids don't attend. |
| My children are in middle school now, but I'll probably continue to go to the SWS auction when I can because I have such great memories of my kids' years there. |
+1 ditto. I am actually looking forward to going and I dont have any children there. |
