What are fifa standards and why is it important that we are aligned with them? Teams can play internationally? MLS academies can sell a player with duel citizenship prior to 18? There was 1 last year and I think 1 the year before.

You’re talking about things that will never impact 99% of kids that play MLSN. This decision was done entirely to cater to mls academies and puts all of their p2p clubs in a terrible position.

So, are you saying all the good Q4s head for ECNL now? And what do all the still good Q1-Q2 players do in ECNL? Do they stay there?

I think this was the worst decision MLSN could have made. If you want to commit to By, commit to By for your entire platform and let your clubs stay By through their feeder system.

I think the best kids will go to mls academies. Beyond that… it will become more stratified with Jan-July going to MLSN and Aug-dec going to ecnl. Not everyone, every family has different needs, siblings, proximity to ecnl/MLSN clubs, but generally that is what will happen.

It will be interesting to see how quickly ecnl can start to pull big clubs away from MLSN or how long this decision from MLSN lasts. This decision puts MLSN p2p clubs in a terrible position but clearly MLSN doesn’t care.

But BY wasn't going to help p2p clubs because the rest of youth soccer is switching to SY. There would be no BY feeder system for those clubs to join.

The clubs would keep their u8-u12 teams BY and play up in SY leagues. It’s not perfect but it’s a better alternative to both the kids and clubs than this.

What I understand, tho, is the clubs pushed for this rather than just staying all BY, so they can compete with the ECNL clubs of the world.

They pushed to align HG and AD, they absolutely were against this idea of HG staying BY and AD going SY. MLSN said they would evaluate and then came back and did it anyway.

My guess is many MLNS1 clubs are right now calling ECNL phones, asking about chances of joining it.

And players, also looking for ECNL clubs in near locations.

What is the purpose or interest of a league stuck in a pothole, with no pro pathway and no connection with college recruiting?

For professional pathway there is MLSN1, for college the best is ECNL.

There is no point in paying/traveling at a league that offers nothing.

Winner is ECNL, clearly.

Seems like MLSN want both the pro and college pathway. What's to stop them now that they'll have strong teams with both BY and SY configurations?

MLSN doesn’t want anything other than their academies. This decision makes that very clear. They don’t give a sh** about their p2p clubs.

Yeah, bad day today p2p clubs, either at MLSN1 or MLSN2.

I think this is correct. I think it is going to be a very uncomfortable FEST for MLSN leadership.

Why? From what I understand this is what they all wanted. MLSN2 wanted to stay aligned with youth system by switching to SY. MLSN1 wanted to stay BY. Seems like best of both worlds, unless a player wants to be the oldest on a SY team in ECNL. But how would that help if their goal is MLS academy?

It’s a bad situation for the academy players most dropped out of school and gave up a lot to be in the pipeline. If they suddenly had the rug pulled out and new players came in the lawsuits would fly..,.

MLS is doing the best it can with a s*it burger.

Maybe if they went 100% BY. Instead, they're looking to build a system for where development can excel for kids of all birth months.

Your understanding is not correct. MLS academies wanted to stay BY. Most MLS 1 p2p wanted to change to SY. P2P clubs with both mls1 and mls2 wanted the age cutoffs aligned.

Academy is so kids CAN play HS. That's the point of that level. Seems like ECNL just doesn't want the competition at the SY level.

MLS Academy is not the same as MLS AD or Academy Division.

Why switch 1, tho, when HS is NOT an option, anyway? Nothing is changing for those teams or players. How is that having the rug pulled out?

MLS academy players refer to mls fully funded academies (like dc United). No, they can’t play high school. MLS Academy Division is mls2. This tier will not be a competitor for ecnl, especially after today.

Not a competitor? They'd have the same AGE configuration. Then, ECNL maybe is also diminishing itself to go SY and perhaps wrongly bet it could force MLSN to do the same.

Most MLS p2p have both mls 1 and 2. They will now have two different age cutoffs for the same age groups. That means two sets of tryouts, no floating kids back and forth between teams, and no upward mobility.

The club feeder system will also be SY which means all Aug-dec birthdays will have to skip u12 to transition to a BY team.

It will create never ending age related issues for club admin. They will be dealing with this until they either switch to a different platform or MLSN aligns HG and AD.
