I'm pretty picky about my coffee and like to bring my coffee maker (just a standard 12 cup coffee maker) with me when I fly and stay in hotels. I have 2 questions about this.
1) Can I carry this in my carry on luggage? Usually I have put it in a checked bag but for this flight it might make more sense to put it in my carry on. Since it has a glass carafe, I wasn't sure--technically I could smash it and use the shards as weapons on the flight (not that I WOULD of course!) 2) The past several flights, I have put it in my checked luggage, and I've been noticing that every time I get my bag after the flight, I have one of those notes saying that TSA opened my luggage for further screening. I'm wondering if it's just a coincidence, or if the coffee maker (or maybe the coffee grounds that I bring) look suspicious in the X ray machines? Thanks! |
| SMDH. |
| Do you still have the box? It may go over better, as if you purchased it |
| That's why Starbucks makes VIA |
| Yes you can bring it. It's no more of a heating device than a hair straightener. I often bring my glass french press when we fly out to backpack trails and camp. |
|
Wow -- I applaud your non-support for Starbucks, but you seriously lug a full-size Mr. Coffee on the plane with you? Even when most hotels have coffee makers in the room? Why not just bring coffee and filters?
I agree -- put it in the original box. Buy a new one if you need the box, they're only about $30. |
Thanks, I still have the box, and use that when I travel by car-- but it's huge and takes up twice the room. I can't use the in room coffee maker-- I am going to Disney world and they have Those horrible one cup things-- I can't remember the brand, but it is not compatible with keurig. The type of discs they use are not available for purchase in stores. I will be up in the wee hours of the morning (running the Star Wars race that starts at 5 am) so just going to the food court and buying a cup of coffee is not an option ? |

The wiring for the coffee maker might look suspicious.
And coffee grounds, too, may set off other alerts. Didn't they used to package cocaine with coffee back on "Miami Vice"? (I'm not sorry to admit I know nothing about illegal drugs.) |

OP did you say you use a Keurig? And you also say you are particular about your coffee?
These two comments are mutually exclusive. |
| This may be the most high-maintenance behavior I've ever heard. Truly. |
| - OP said it's a standard 12 cup w/ glass carafe. Mr Coffee? |
No, I did not say that. I said the coffee makers in Disney hotels are not compatible with keurig cups. I do not have a keurig, but I know the cups are easy to find in stores. |
Wow. I'm honestly shocked people on dcum, where parents can not fathom sleeping in the same room as their own kids on vacation, think it's high maintenance to want a cup of coffee? Bizarre. |
Then order those pods online before you go. Isn't that easier, or buy some Via packs. |
| Dang. I just bring instant coffee packs. |
