Waitlist Movement Data Now Available

This is fantastic data, and really helpful. It was depressing to see that our numbers are so terrible that we likely only have a chance of getting into one school, but great information to have as we move forward with planning for next year.

Random thoughts on the data (middle school edition).

Surprised by number of seats DCI ended up offering to wait list given perception that it is fully subscriber with feeder students.

BASIS seemed to not have taken students from WL past 9/1 contrary to what's been said here often.

WL list really doesn't move much - confirming rumors here. Hard to move much when there are only 90 seats to begin with.

Also Deal took 3 students from the WL last year in 6th and 1 in 8th (!!).

This is great. Way to go My School DC! I'm impressed they were able to get all the LEAs to agree to disclose so much.

This is amazing. What a great resource and much better than asking in this Forum how much a WL moved last year. Except for LAMB, I guess, damn their exceptionalism.

I love this. I'm going to waste lots of time today at work.

And Bethune. damn their mediocrity.

Interesting that Basis offered 90 5th grade spots this year and last year they offered 170! That says to me the school might be low-balling because of space but once they get a handle on whose coming back in the older grades they'll likely tap the 5th grade waitlist pretty hard.

The BASIS directory has 96 current 8th graders. So if half leave for SWW, Banneker, Wilson, private, etc -- that would theoretically open about 40-45 seats for 5th and/or 6th.

I don't think they'd take more than that because the space is really, really cramped.

Tacky to say, I know, but it's reality...I'm sure it also comes down to the budget and what they need. Each additional student is worth an allocation in the budget.

Agree. They are in process of refinancing their loan on the building (actually may be done now) which is going to bring down overhead costs significantly.

Brookland - underenrolled and no wait list at all for 7th and 8th.

When I drive by and think of the money ...

Are you the same person with no vision who always posts about underenrolled schools? Are you aware that after shrinking for many years, the student population in DC is growing?

I bought a house with an extra bedroom because I knew my family was going to grow. I never walked by it and thought of the money...

Gotta say, given the size of the 6th grade, that makes no sense at all. However, I know some kids who are IB who switched to private but did not unenroll from DCPS and there were lockers with their names on them the first week of school -- Deal was expecting them and they didn't show. So maybe those already planned spots were the ones given to WL?
