Charter Waitlist Data is Available!

These waitlists seem much shorter than in previous years. It looks like it was a good year to be a charter school entrant.

it's not clear that the year over year is apples to apples. Of course the SY16-17 is going to be at its peak right now. Is the SY15-16 data from April 15 or is it current? >% 150 difference between years for 5th grade seems highly unlikely

Exactly! I'm likely biased because we 'lost' the 5th grade lottery, but I can't believe the press release does not call attention to the fact that MS grades (5th - 8th) saw an increase of 1100+ students.

I know it's in schools interest to have duplicated waitlists but I really want to see unduplicated numbers of kids waitlisted by grade.

My Latin waitlist in the 40s suddenly doesn't seem so bad...not that I expect a call, but still...

The increase in 5th grade is probably coming from all those families with children in Ward 6 that Bowser et al have basically told to eff off. There is nothing close to Alice Deal for All.

I think it's time for you to wake up and smell the coffee . . . or at least talk to some families of 5th graders. And it's apples to apples - just look at last year's press release.

If waitlists mean anything, it looks like some of the shine is starting to come off of Haynes and Cap City.

Looks like 0 WL at 6th for Wash Global.

Man my DD's number was worse than I thought.

You wonder how a school like SELA will stay open...6 children on their waitlist and 3 of those is for third grade. My guess is that they aren't sure that they'll have a 3rd grade so they couldn't promise spots to their 3 applicants.

5-10 years ago, they may have been significantly better options than the surrounding neighborhood schools, but with improving neighborhood schools, that seems to be the case less so now.

"Alice Deal For All" was the most ridiculous campaign promise that I've heard in a very long time.

Overall, there are 8,640 individual students on waitlists to attend one or more participating public charter schools in the 2016-17 school year, an 1.3% increase over last year’s 8,526 students. In total 20,880 students are on a waitlist at any PK012 school, this is an increase from 18,835 last year

that would suggest an even greater increase for DCPS waitlists
