Good experience with a Dr at SGF?

Anonymous
Does anyone have a good experience w a doctor at SGF that they would recommend? Particularly interested in doctors that practice out of their K street office. Thanks!

DW is currently cycling out of state, but we worked with Dr. Widra for a few years. I used to hate him - HATE. But he kind of grew on me, I think in part because DW suffered a second trimester loss and he really, really felt for us. His nurse, Cerone, is the absolute best. She is the main thing I miss about Shady Grove.

Some mentions of K Street doctors in this earlier thread:

warmest/fuzziest doc at SG?

So much of this is subjective. Out of five cycles at three clinics, I had my worst experience with any clinician with a nurse named Cerone at SG.

I didn't like Widra's approach. Too rigid cookie cutter stuff. Personality wise I liked him, but that in the end doesn't matter that much.

I would not recommend Dr. Widra. He never wanted to try anything different, never checked in, and was really hard to get in touch with. If I had to do it over again, I would choose a doctor in a different office since you only really meet them for your initial consult, and do monitoring at K Street. I wasn't impressed with the doctors that practice out of the K St. office.

I think all the drs. there have to be cookie cutter under the SG policies that the medical director sets.

When I did things, all of the retrievals/transfers were done out of Shady Grove. I went to Dr. Chang (he is great- but is not a hand holder) and his nurse Jessica (who is a hand holder). I did all of my weekly monitoring at K street (I worked in the city) and weekend monitoring at Shady Grove and retrievals/transfers at Shady Grove. I went straight to IVF (no IUI) and would go back to Dr. Chang again.

I really like Dr. Saffan. He immediately keyed in on my situation and has been really reassuring so far. His nurse is also great.

I'm with Dr. Devine on K St and she's been great (no complaints at all, except for the lack of pregnancy...) but having my procedures done at Rockville with Dr. Doyle is the highlight of my time at SGF.

I had a great experience with Dr. Widra. I was in treatment for a total of about 18 months or so. He isn't super warm and fuzzy but I felt very well taken care of and I never felt like I couldn't reach out to him if I needed anything.

+1. He is the reason I was successful twice. He also checked in on me.

I like Osborn at sibley. She is calm and nice but honest about your chances. I see widra there too he is rushed and gruff, but together they got me a bfp on my first ivf cycle.

Love Cerone! She also works with Dr. Osborn who I really like. They are at Sibley location

Another vote for dr. Chang. He's very thorough and smart. He called me on weekends about embryos and to discuss a failed cycle. He's very clinical but he is not warm and fuzzy.

Another vote for Dr. Osborn: https://www.shadygrovefertility.com/doctors/osborn. Like others have said, you barely see the Doctor so the nurses are probably far more important at least in terms of feeling cared about or assisted with details. The Doctor's job is mainly to come up with your treatment plan. I felt for me at least, she did a good job with her role. The Doctor is NOT going to hold your hand, generally, or be the daily support some are looking for.
