Gaza War, Part 3

Anonymous
Israel cannot fight both the West Bank and Gaza at the same time. It can’t.

This is not 1948. Hamas is an organization unlike any other Arab military or Palestinian force before. They’re mysterious and seemingly everywhere but nowhere at the same time like ghosts

Israel should stop while it’s ahead. They already avenged 10/7 more than 25x over in terms of death.

When you’re winning, you have to know when to leave the casino while you are still up

Nice people, these protesters. Targeting cancer patients receiving care.

Another badge of shame for them.

They are full of hate. I would lower my expectations.

I’d expect it from the Arab street.

To see it in the US?

Disturbing.

No. The protests are for a ceasefire and for the US to stop funding Israel. The Protests are not in support of Hamas terrorists.

Will Israel save the hostages lives by agreeing to a ceasefire?

Tell us what would happen if Israel agreed to a unilateral ceasefire, please? Because Hamas would continue their efforts to exterminate Jews... which is fine by you. What you really mean is Jews should not be allowed to fight back.

Ceasefire means both sides stop firing.

What happens if the ceasefire is broken by one side or another is part of the conditions of a ceasefire treaty.

Which is why there can not be a ceasefire until every single Hamas supporter is either dead or locked up in Israeli prison.

Because Hamas will never abide by any ceasefire. They will keep killing and raping and destroying the world until they achieve their goal of the death of every Jew in the world.

And the Palestinian experience is that Israel is committed to killing and destroying them. An endless cycle.

All arising from the Palestinians’ idiotic decision to reject UN resolution 181.

You’re blaming them for not wanting to lose more than 60% of their land?

The Turks and the Brits and Armenians all either colonized or moved to Palestine in the past century and they didn’t blink an eye so the idea that they hate outsiders isn’t true . Certain immigrants were harsher than others

I hope all the pro Israel’ers would happily give up their homes if a bunch of migrants from Guatemala and Mexico came to your neighborhood and forcibly expelled you and your neighbors on the premise their ancestors are indigenous Americans from thousands of years ago

Nah. I’m blaming them for launching a war of annihilation in response.

Hasn’t worked out very well for anyone involved.

Immoral, illegal under international law, and profoundly stupid.

Back to 181 again. You condemn the U.N. 24/7 for being unfair, except that one time they conceived of a rigged plan that gave you and the other 31% of Zionist people in the region over 60% of the land already occupied by the indigenous people, with all of the critical water supply and natural resource advantages.

Again, for the 1,000th time, how would you react if someone showed up in your driveway this evening to announce that your property would be transferred to a group of strangers tomorrow morning? But wait, they also have some great news that you should be thrilled to welcome - you get to keep around 40% of the property for yourself! Not the house part, of course, but some good parts by the curb and a little over near the backyard fence area. And it's not like the strangers are getting ALL the good stuff. They have to take that dry patch of grass over there, too. So it's fair and all, don't worry. Just sign this paper.

Good god, you revisionist historians with the 181 tripe.

So let’s annihilate them, right?

1,000 words to say that you don’t think Israel should exist.

Brevity is your friend.

Strawberries. Hillside. Ramekin.

See, anyone can just spit out incoherent words that don't in any way reflect what came before them.

Nobody said annihilation or suggested it.

Actually, “annihilate” is exactly what the leaders of the Arab armies said in 1948.

You want a citation or you prefer to try again?

Nobody endorsed what was supposedly "said" by the Arab armies in 1948. But for the record, if your citation ends in .il, I'll pass. I prefer actual historical records.

That said, what DID occur was that you were asked how you would respond. Now, why don't you try giving reading comprehension a spin and please answer that question. I'll restate it, directly from the PP that you replied to with that annihilation non-sequitur ...

Again, for the 1,000th time, how would you react if someone showed up in your driveway this evening to announce that your property would be transferred to a group of strangers tomorrow morning?

I’d hire a lawyer.

I wouldn’t murder them.

You?

But that’s really a distraction from the main point:

You are arguing (1) that Israel shouldn’t have been created, and (2) that the Palestinians were (are?) justified in using violence to oppose that creation.

Right?

And when the court system rejects your claim over and over again, how would you handle that setback? For the next 75 years, enduring endless abuses by your new landlord with no relief in sight?

I have to admit, I truly enjoy the idea of you squirming to reconcile how you would supposedly take your grievance to the court system "like a civilized adult" whilst defending Israel's prosecuting of its grievance by killing 24,000 (and counting) people with warplanes and bombs. Why didn't they just hire a lawyer?

As for what I think, I absolutely think Israel should not have been created in the Middle East, and certainly not as a "Jewish state". I'm also opposed to Islamic states, for the record. The plan had (and continues to have) no long-term prospects for success. But Israel is there, and both Israel and its neighbors have the burden of making it all work, somehow. As an American who isn't brainwashed by propaganda that U.S. strategic interests will always necessitate supporting Israel with welfare, I don't really care how they work it out, as long as I'm not forced to watch my country fund one side of it so disproportionately. It's like living in a country that supports the favorite over the underdog - who supports that?

Another 500 words to say:

1. Israel never should have been created.

2. Palestinian terrorism is justified.

3. Supporting Israel isn’t in US interests (though you can’t articulate why).

Got it.

You’re cool when the musical chairs melody stops and you find yourself sitting on a nice comfy seat that you stole from someone else through acts of violence, and others despise you for being a thieving scumbag who steals from others and feels entitled to do so.

But what’s the problem? Why are you even here complaining? As you’re quick to remind us, everyone throughout history has always hated you. What’s different about this chapter of hate?

You’re under a serious misapprehension (several, actually).

1. No one hates me, insofar as I’m aware.

2. Haven’t stolen anything from anyone (indeed, much of my family is Native, so quite the opposite).

3. I’m not even particularly pro-Israel—probably a centrist in the current environment.

I do have both personal and professional interests in international affairs, which is why I’m here (and also why I have little tolerance for much of the nonsense here).

Let’s hear it - since you have professional interests in international affairs, regale us with the strategic argument underlying America’s support of Israel.

I can use a good laugh.

So angry and cursed with the zealot’s disdain for dialogue. Not a good look.

Who's angry? I'm literally laughing at you, and inviting you to set the argument for what I already know is your indefensible position.

Indefensible? WRT US interests, it’s a position shared by most of the military, state, the intelligence community, and academics/wonks in the field.

I’d say the burden is on you to make your case.

And your anger and zealotry is palpable.

OK, Dollar Store SFS wannabe - save it already with the propaganda re: support.

Trying to jazz hands everyone into ignoring the special interest groups literally writing checks to the political class is pretty slimy, even for you. Those checks ensure enforcement of this toxic top-down mandate to support Israel (resulting in adherence at State, which is light duty with the Stu Seldowitz set, right?). You’re really off the mark in arguing that DoD personnel support the arrangement, but you are on the money (literally!) with the think tanks - think tanks who are, surprise surprise, bloated with Zionist staff.

Anyway, all pendulums swing. Do try not to get cut.

Nope. It’s a disaster for Israel, both WRT to the 80 years of conflict it’s spawned, but also in terms of internal politics.

The current Israeli government is, in part, the result of the Palestinian/Arab response in 1947-48 and the subsequent conflicts.

Are you drunk?

Bullcrap.
Some of these protestors are carrying Hamas flags and chanting the same rhetoric as the Hamas terrorists.
And, we have seen more than enough evidence of people actually praising these less-than-human individuals.

DP

My friends who attended the protest are centrist types and were definitely just asking for a ceasefire and more humanity towards the Palestinians.

There were no doubt a minority of more extreme protestors but it was mostly peaceful and most protestors just want to see a ceasefire and humanitarian support for the many Palestinians civilians suffering from terrible injuries/ loss of homes/ loss of family members and starvation. Especially the many children who are suffering so much.

Everyone I know condemns Hamas actions on October 7.

But Israel’s disproportionate response is not only inhumane but making Israel less safe in a hostile region.

Very fine people at the protest, right?

You know the left has lost their minds when they’re parroting Trump’s rhetoric on Charlottesville.

What? I never said they were very fine people - I said they are sensible centrist types and not extremists. They simply Want the indiscriminate response by IDF to stop and for more humanitarian support for the innocent Palestinians. They also condemn Hamas’ actions but don’t think Israel’s scale of response is justified.

It is in no one’s interests to continue down this extreme path. Many Jewish friends in DMV are also horrified by the scale of devastation visited upon Palestinians / all while not approving of Hamas and wanting Israel to survive.

It is bizarre to refer to anyone who disagrees with IDF’s military tactics as anti semitic.

Looking at the photos of the destruction Israel has inflicted on Gaza is pretty drastic. Anyone who thinks this level of vengeance is moral and sane is fringe.

Have you looked at photos of Bakhmut? Avdiika? Marinka? Mosul? Fallujah?

It's war.

And urban warfare is the worst.

Perhaps you could tell me why Hamas launched this war? Still don't understand what the strategic purpose was here.

Hamas invades Israel on a quiet Saturday morning, murders a bunch of kids at a music festival. Murders a bunch of peaceniks living on kibbutzes. These are pretty much the most liberal people in Israel. And Hamas slaughtered more than 1200. Then they raped and tortured innumerable women, killing most of them. Breaking their pelvises. Beheading them. Stabbing them. Shooting these women in the head as they violated them. Then they injure thousands more. Then they kidnapped 250 people, including kids and the elderly.

All before noon.

Have you looked at those photos?

What was the purpose?

Question for all you people posting here.

What was the purpose?

The purpose was killing Jews, obvs. That's what Hamas is for. That's their whole purpose.
