Political Discussion
Let’s hear it - since you have professional interests in international affairs, regale us with the strategic argument underlying America’s support of Israel. I can use a good laugh. |
So angry and cursed with the zealot’s disdain for dialogue. Not a good look. |
Who's angry? I'm literally laughing at you, and inviting you to set the argument for what I already know is your indefensible position. |
Looking at the photos of the destruction Israel has inflicted on Gaza is pretty drastic. Anyone who thinks this level of vengeance is moral and sane is fringe. |
But way can’t you see that by this logic 10/7 was also an act of war in an ongoing conflict that has been going on for decades? This is exactly and eye for both eyes attitude that has gotten us to this place. How can the retaliation of the Palestinians in the next generations not be even more horrific than 10/7. Is that what you want? |
Honestly? Really? That is your response? What lawyer? The one that you would have had would have on speed dial would have. been Palestinian. Would Israel have allowed them to argue property rights in a court of law? Have you read Tbe Lemon Tree. I urge you to. I promise it’s a balanced reporting of true history in the 1900s in the region (I’m Jewish btw). One small nugget is that there was a toy living in an area where zionists were trying to convince Palestinians leave. That boy picked up a toy that exploded blowing off his left hand. He was 8- years old. Can you put aside whatever the Palestinians may have done to justify that action to think what you would do if you were that boy? If I was that boy, yes I would hate Jews. That is why Israel’s outsized response to 10/7 places Jews at greater risk than ever before. |
What specifically surprised them? How else modern warfare would look in an urban area? Look at Fallujah, Aleppo, Grozniy, Ukraine, etc. Modern warfare is designed to obliterate. What evidence have you all had that this will somehow look different? |
| Pro Palestinian protesters yelling “you support genocide” at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center https://twitter.com/DannyMMorris?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1747001653872463982%7Ctwgr%5Ea63f622baef4578ffdd16919fcbb79d464561bd3%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.timesofisrael.com%2Fliveblog_entry%2Fpro-palestinian-protesters-shout-shame-at-complicit-nyc-cancer-center%2F. These people are missing marbles. |
Indefensible? WRT US interests, it’s a position shared by most of the military, state, the intelligence community, and academics/wonks in the field. I’d say the burden is on you to make your case. And your anger and zealotry is palpable. |
Have you looked at photos of Bakhmut? Avdiika? Marinka? Mosul? Fallujah? It's war. And urban warfare is the worst. Perhaps you could tell me why Hamas launched this war? Still don't understand what the strategic purpose was here. Hamas invades Israel on a quiet Saturday morning, murders a bunch of kids at a music festival. Murders a bunch of peaceniks living on kibbutzes. These are pretty much the most liberal people in Israel. And Hamas slaughtered more than 1200. Then they raped and tortured innumerable women, killing most of them. Breaking their pelvises. Beheading them. Stabbing them. Shooting these women in the head as they violated them. Then they injure thousands more. Then they kidnapped 250 people, including kids and the elderly. All before noon. Have you looked at those photos? What was the purpose? Question for all you people posting here. What was the purpose? |
There’s ample reason for hate on both sides, and ample reason for grievance. It seems to me that the current Palestinian victimology (to coin a term) entirely neglects their role in creating the current situation. UN Resolution 181 illustrates this—we’ve literally seen hundreds of posts decrying 181 and making the “what would you do?” argument. It’s a great litmus test to distinguish serious, thoughtful posters from the “Israel shouldn’t exist; terror is justified” crowd. |
Nice people, these protesters. Targeting cancer patients receiving care. Another badge of shame for them. |
Hamas did not launch this “war”. It’s not even a war. It’s the IDF killing unarmed civilians. Whatever this has been going on for 50 years plus . You just think if Israelis are not getting killed and the Palestinians everything is okay. As for urban warfare you do not know what you are posting about. This was not a war with two side fighting. It was s a systematic destruction of infrastructure to make Gaza uninhabitable and 2.3 million homeless. Hamas is still a viable force. The IDF’s own assessment estimates they have only engaged 30% of Hamas strength. This is not a war against Hamas. |
And ISIS was the result of Fallujah. The difference is Americans don’t live next door to Fallujah. Israelis do. If they want future stability, they need to stop the war . It can’t continue the way it is because guess what? The West Bank will start to get mad. It’s already happening. Gaza fought back for what happened in the West Bank and now the West Bank has something to say about Gaza |
They are full of hate. I would lower my expectations. |
