As for what I think, I absolutely think Israel should not have been created in the Middle East, and certainly not as a "Jewish state". I'm also opposed to Islamic states, for the record. The plan had (and continues to have) no long-term prospects for success. But Israel is there, and both Israel and its neighbors have the burden of making it all work, somehow. As an American who isn't brainwashed by propaganda that U.S. strategic interests will always necessitate supporting Israel with welfare, I don't really care how they work it out, as long as I'm not forced to watch my country fund one side of it so disproportionately. It's like living in a country that supports the favorite over the underdog - who supports that?

My friends who attended the protest are centrist types and were definitely just asking for a ceasefire and more humanity towards the Palestinians.

There were no doubt a minority of more extreme protestors but it was mostly peaceful and most protestors just want to see a ceasefire and humanitarian support for the many Palestinians civilians suffering from terrible injuries/ loss of homes/ loss of family members and starvation. Especially the many children who are suffering so much.

Everyone I know condemns Hamas actions on October 7.

But Israel’s disproportionate response is not only inhumane but making Israel less safe in a hostile region.

What? I never said they were very fine people - I said they are sensible centrist types and not extremists. It is in no one’s interests to continue down this extreme path. Many Jewish friends in DMV are also horrified by the scale of devastation visited upon Palestinians / all while not approving of Hamas and wanting Israel to survive.

It is bizarre to refer to anyone who disagrees with IDF’s military tactics as anti semitic.

Looking at the photos of the destruction Israel has inflicted on Gaza is pretty drastic. Anyone who thinks this level of vengeance is moral and sane is fringe.

I'm not the PP but Oct 7 wasn't a "grievance". It was an act of war and Israel responded. Is there something confusing about that?

But way can’t you see that by this logic 10/7 was also an act of war in an ongoing conflict that has been going on for decades?

My friends who attended the protest are centrist types and were definitely just asking for a ceasefire and more humanity towards the Palestinians.

There were no doubt a minority of more extreme protestors but it was mostly peaceful and most protestors just want to see a ceasefire and humanitarian support for the many Palestinians civilians suffering from terrible injuries/ loss of homes/ loss of family members and starvation. Especially the many children who are suffering so much.

Everyone I know condemns Hamas actions on October 7.

But Israel’s disproportionate response is not only inhumane but making Israel less safe in a hostile region.

There’s ample reason for hate on both sides, and ample reason for grievance.

It seems to me that the current Palestinian victimology (to coin a term) entirely neglects their role in creating the current situation.

Hamas did not launch this “war”. It’s not even a war. It’s the IDF killing unarmed civilians. Whatever this has been going on for 50 years plus . You just think if Israelis are not getting killed and the Palestinians everything is okay.

As for urban warfare you do not know what you are posting about. This was not a war with two side fighting. It was s a systematic destruction of infrastructure to make Gaza uninhabitable and 2.3 million homeless. Hamas is still a viable force. The IDF’s own assessment estimates they have only engaged 30% of Hamas strength. This is not a war against Hamas.
