I have a daughter who wants to play lacrosse. Looking for info on making the Visitation lacrosse team. I heard they prefer girls from Capital Club Lacrosse. I know it is competitive so want to see if Caps is a feeder to making Visi lax. We play club lax but not for Caps. Can anyone offer insight? |
I know several girls who play for other clubs (Rebels, MC Elite etc) who play for Visi so as long as she's a strong player it shouldn't matter which club. Capital is a great club that's well respected but they are not the only top program in the DC area so don't worry about that. |
This is absolutely right. |
More Capital players go to SSSAS than any other school, by far. It's easy to get he numbers. Just look at the rosters fir the Capital teams. They list players by name, position and school. Most of the privates and Catholics have at least 2or 3 girls playing on the 8 Capital teams (2 per grade) but none come close to SSSAS. |
You might want to look into it. visitation hired new coaches a couple years ago and one of them is recruiter for capital lacrosse. more than 50% are from caps lacrosse |
Here are the numbers of girls from Visi on Capital (Blue is A team, Orange is B team) 2016 Capital Blue - 2, Orange 0 2017 Capital Blue - 1, Orange - 0 2018 Capital Blue - 4, Orange - 0 2019 Capital Blue - 3, Orange - 5 So,Visi currently has 15 girls from freshmen through seniors who play for Capital Lax Club. More than half, 8 of those, are freshmen. |
visi is poorly coached. they should dominate the ISL given they are the largest team in the league by a mile in terms of enrollment. |
At what grade do these girls normally get recruited? In 8th grade so they can move over to Visi in 9th? |
Ok My son plays college lacrosse so we've been thru the drill. Soon we will apply to area catholic high schools for my daughter who also plays and loves lax. This thread caught my attention. It should be shared in sports forum too Has it been brought to the attention of school administration? other schools? It's a complete conflict of interest to have HS coach work for club team in recruitment no less! i can see how this is noteworthy for girls dreaming of playing lacrosse at Visi. It's made me reconsider. |
What? How is that a conflict of interests? Clubs and high schools dint compete in any way. I'm genuinely curious why you are calling in a CoI? My DD also plays and is considering some string all highschools as well. All the high school coaches have an affiliation to a club team. SSSAS to Stars and Capital. Holton and NCS to Next Level. Potomac to Pride and Capitals. BI to Cardinals. And so forth. Why is that a CoI? |
Heard same thing about soccer at Visi - coach coaches an outside team, gives preference to the girls on that team. Visi admin must just not care that much. |
Well, it's easier to just coach the girls that you usually coach at club but it's really lame .. |
You should not believe everything you hear (and should not make assumptions, especially without knowing the facts). My daughter played varsity soccer at Visi the last two years. The coach definitely does NOT coach club soccer. Ironically, many parents wish that she did - just like the coach at NCS, SR, etc. - because it can be an indicator of a quality coach. At any rate, it's a non-issue now, since the soccer coach resigned a couple of months ago due to work obligations, and the school is currently conducting a search. |
Many schools view club coaching as a plus because of the recruiting factor. Obviously that can lead to some perception issues, but coaches want to win so they have every incentive to put the best players on the team and in the lineup. Also, remember, correlation does not imply causation. Visi is one of the best HS lax teams around; Capitol one of the strongest clubs. It makes perfect sense that there would be a large cross-over, without leading to a conclusion that you must play for that particular club do you have a good shot to play for Visitation. Although Visitation is very big for the ISL (500 upper school girls), that is still a relatively small school that Fields multiple teams in the spring. A great lacrosse player will have every opportunity to shine at Visitation -- the numbers alone make that clear. |
Is ISL better than WCAC? |
