He’s been more about politics than public health since the beginning.

Forcing schools closed is bad politics. Not surprising, though. Bad doctor, bad leader...bad politician.

It shouldn't be about politics, it should be about kids safety, their families safety and our communities safety.

How odd that never mentioned education there. Are one of those people that thinks school is just child care?

If I thought school was just child care, why are my kids in virtual academy. No, it should be about safety. Its not, so we choose not to send our kids back as we care about their health, our health and the overall situation. MCPS is not following any best practices beyond masking. No distancing, no testing and they aren't being transparent with notifying of covid positives. If anything he failed us by being so lax on allowing schools to open in full with very large numbers of students.

Just shutup. Every district in the country opened up. Go back to your VA, click some links, and be happy you even have that.

Its truly sad you don't care about anyone, not even your own kids.

I guess in your opinion, the majority of parents in the MoCo (and the US) don't care about their kids because they sent them back to in person school

/Because/ I very much care about my kids, I sent them back. It’s by far the right option, not isolated at home.

Nope, but keep telling yourself that.

What the f is wrong with you that you can’t understand that people would come to different conclusions than you because of how much they live and care for their kids and want to keep them safe? I weighed up the risks and decided that for our family the risk of isolation was much more significant for my kids than the risk of being at school. Because I care about them I sent them back. My elementary kid who suffered so badly last year is already back to good old self after only 5 days. It’s amazing and I am delighted to see him so happy.

Some posters are just invested in Zoom University and hate that kids are back in school. They want everybody to equally suffer.

The VA parents are hoping in person fails to justify their choice. Don’t fall for their click bait. It will be fine. A little messy for another month but they everyone will hit their stride and even if the stupid policy stands individual teachers will learn to give Larla a few mins to see if her tummy ache goes away before sending to nurse.

You have never been a teacher in public school. Ask Larla to wait 10 min to go to the nurse and her mom will email the principal that you are guilty of child abuse.

Agree we are peaking or past peaking. And we are special because our vaccination rates are so high. We are the opposite end of the spectrum from Texas and Florida's vaccination rates

Well then all MCPs’ policy does then is force parents to tell their kids not to mention anything unless it’s really really bad. Not good.

All these hardcore VA parents made me think of another problem with this policy: you don’t think it’s too far fetched to think that a family that couldn’t get in to the VA could concoct a headache or sore throat and refuse to get tested so that they get to keep their kid home in virtual for ten days along with their classmates.

It’s just 10 days. Nit really effective if you wanted the VA unless your child will be fully vaccinated + 2 weeks in 10 days.

We really need to stop thinking the worst of our neighbors.

I think they’ll tweak their policy one they start looking like the local regional idiot. They seem to relish serving that role, but that may be a bridge too far.

I don’t know if it’s a VA idiot that will do it. I have been very conservative regarding COVID and my kid is back in school. If it was super concerned, I would have signed my kid up for VA. I think most likely an immature family that likes the limelight. The Boy Who Cried Wolf!

EVERY district opened! Nobody is buying your crap any more. It's truly sad how one dimensional you are.

And at least 45 districts have already closed again in Texas alone.

This PA district closed Friday https://www.pennlive.com/coronavirus/2021/09/millersburg-schools-closed-due-to-covid-concerns.html
Others are desperately looking for a way to pivot to virtual or at least hybrid.

When all else fails, dig up a Texas story. Those districts opened. They’ll temporarily close, then reopen. If the MCPS clown show attempts a 2020-21 repeat, they’ll be in near exclusive company.

It’s not just Texas. It’s happening all over the US in places people insist on acting like covid is no big deal. Even some FL districts are closing.

And they will reopen. Working as intended. Aside, Delta is starting to peak/post-peak. This is not an event that will carry through the school year.

I agree that mcps will not go all virtual and I agree they shouldn’t. But it is not the case that kids cases have peaked and are coming down. If you disaggregate the case data by age, even in Texas and Georgia, they haven’t reached the too yet.

The WSJ just reported a surge in child cases that they connect to schools reopening.

And then your kids can do distance learning for college and a get a virtual job and never leave the house. And it sounds like the makings of a horror film but whatever it sure it's making you really happy! Congratulations!

Let the normal people have our conversation about how this is going to work

I never said it was superior. It depends on the teacher. We had some pretty crappy years in person with bad teachers. We have flexible kids who are fine in either setting. We also are very involved and support them. You should try being an involved parent. I said it was safer. We will return in person when MCPS can come up with a clear plan to keep kids safe. Clearly parents here aren't willing so if they don't, who will. Its not going to work well and your attitude is to pretend everything is fine and who cares about the spread or if anyone gets sick as long as your needs are met. I feel bad for your kids given how little you care. Many people have virtual jobs. Nothing special about being in an office with a 1-2 hours commute. But, wait, if you were home working, you might have to see your kids every once in a while. Really, given what type of person you are, we get why they need to be out of the house as much as possible.

Being an involved parent meant putting my kid back in the environment where she would learn best.

Plus I am an essential worker so I don't get to stay at home and fart around in front of the computer in my jammies. No 2 hour commute for me, it's a 5 minute drive or a 20 minute walk.
