Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
Wait...I thought that the people that wanted quarantine/remote/virtual were the privileged ones? Bc they had the means and flexible work arrangements to make it work. The people that can't quarantine are the non-privileged, those who can't take time off from work or work from home? I'm confused now...who has the privilege? |

Right. So the PTA president, who is afraid of the quarantine because they don't have options, wouldn't be the privileged one in this scenario |
Or, alternatively, the PTA president, who is more afraid of quarantine than a covid risk, is the privileged one in this scenario. There isn't enough information in the PP's post to know. |
Ahh....fair enough. Privilege. It's a tough word. It's almost like it's become just a word people toss around at people that disagree with them, regardless of its meaning... |
Hmm, people with a compromised immune system like having a cancer patient in the family? |
Their answer is those folks deserved cancer and deserve to die but that if they take the vaccine, the vaccine will save them. Too bad that's not true given Colin Powell, who probably gets the best military health care in the VIP section, just died of covid complications related to health issues. |
Our PTA president doesn't care at all about covid or safety. Many of us tried to advocate to them to get basics in place and they refused. So, as usual, our kids go without. For us, being able to go to work in person and school is the privilege as we cannot risk covid. I'd love to send mine in person but we don't have that luxury. If you have kids, you need to figure it out, just like we had to. |
If it caught asymptomatic cases it would contain the spread. |
That would be nice. When our health insurance tests for covid, they also test for flu. Seems responsible to me. I'd prefer MCPS to require parents to take their own kids regularly but reality is you cannot even get some parents to care for their kids during the day let alone take them for a covid test. You are right, it is kinda sad we have to rely on the schools for testing given people like you will not get their kids tested. |
Ha! I am the PP. My son was already tested 3 times. So few kids opted in in his school they keep “randomly” checking him. Joke is on you. You think you know people so well Judgie McTester. |
It should not be opt in. It should be mandatory if you want to be in person. Your son is not being randomly chosen. He is the only option. Yes I judge parents who refuse testing. Not all schools have had that many tests. Good for yours. Ours just announced testing this week. |
DP. I don't refuse testing. I just refuse COVID testing by the school. I've gotten my kids tested whenever they have any symptoms beyond a runny nose. But I'm not going to let MCPS potentially use my kids as an excuse to send home a class of kids for nearly 2 weeks. |
+1 |
So, basically you don't care if your kids have covid and will send them to school except if they are severely sick. A runny nose is a symptom of covid. Really sad you cannot be a responsible parent and test. |
