Can they put a kitchen in a trailer? Or not serve any hot food?

Yes. Hate the swap for whatever reason you want, but key is a larger building with a larger capacity to grow.

Dear uninformed,
Key has a smaller cafeteria and therefore building size is meaningless. There is no money to make capital improvements to fix this situation either so don't go all sideways on that too. I'm not affected either way but I look forward to you getting what you asked for - a crowded bare bones crappy program that has takes your child's entire elementary time to rebuild so you reap no benefits. Good for you - go swap!

Second that. You can bet your a$$ I will not support wasting my tax dollars on this misadventure.

+1000 These threads are going to be amazing in a few years when ASFS shows up and realizes what a dump the place is and that their kids start eating lunch at 10 a.m. It will take them years to rebuild what they have now-- just in time for their kids to go to middle school. I'm sure ASFS will be great again--- in about a decade but bye bye top rankings for awhile!

This swap is just a part of Dr. Murphy's plan to kill off both schools programs.

ASFS doesn't have a program. They do NOT. Moving Immersion 1 mile will not destroy it, drama llama.

riding a bus 1 extra mile does not take an hour, drama llama

Ah, another private school grad who thinks they know how public school buses work. How cute.

Wrong again. But do know how narcissistic personality disorder works and it is not looking good on you.

Yes, the parent who doesn't want their kid subjected to a bus ride half way across the county: classic NPD symptoms.

How does the swap happening or not result in anyone being bussed halfway across the county?

Read the memo linked in the original post. The main reason for the swap is to minimize bus times for the poor kids in Rosslyn.

I've read the memo, I get the bus time thing and actually support it. But this whole "halfway across the county" rhetoric is hyperbolic and getting old.

Well, we appreciate your understanding, but Rosslyn to Taylor is 3.8 miles; our urban county is 6 miles across. People who aren’t riding a school bus (which has to stay parked until every kid is seated vs a city bus) just aren’t getting that Rosslyn to ASFS is already a compromise, and pushing even further to Taylor should not be on the table.

Curious how much the disturbance from having HB buses converge on Rosslyn will do to traffic. MS buses are earlier, but the increased traffic may not clear by 8 when school buses come through

You’re using two different measurements to get to that comparison. Arlington is 6 miles wide as the crow flies; driving from one end to the other would be more Han six miles. Rosslyn is 3.8 miles to Taylor as driven on streets but as the crow flies, it’s maybe half that.

compared driving from Rosslyn to Taylor to East Falls church. 3.8 vs 5.8. More than half that distance.m

As the crow flies? Are you comparing the edge of Rosslyn to the edge of Taylor zone, b/c reading the map, it’s about 2.5 miles as crow flies, probably more but I’m just measuring east to west.

Which is still pretty close to half the county. Not ‘nearly half that’

Now if you are suggesting an air borne school transit, like a gondola, than maybe you have a point.

Otherwise it is ridiculously far to bus kids to their ‘neighborhood’ school in a county this size

Using google maps even in traffic from River Place in Rosslyn or Prospect House behind the Marine Corps Memorial to Taylor elementary is typically 10-20 minutes and even in the worst traffic 24 minutes is the extreme.

This entire discussion is moot because Long Branch will have plenty of room for the Rosslyn Whiners once Ft Myers goes to HB and the PUs below 50 go to Fleet.

No one is disputing that it would be one of the longer bus trips, people are just rolling their eyes at the exaggeration of it - you’re not winning supporters that way.

It’s worth recognizing, though, that in most of the country, living 3 miles form your elementary school would be nothing. Arlington is just insanely small and it skews our perspective on distance.

No, Long Branch is going to have to take the PUs along 50 where the Red Cross building is located, otherwise Barrett will jump up above 80% fr/l. They won't have space for anyone in Rosslyn.

So long branch will have room even though it’s at 102% in 2021?

It's always funny when the people who aren't paying attention pretend they are.

I always assumed the SB’s discussion of busses was due to concern about budgets for drivers and vehicles, not thebkids sitting on them.
Anonymous
And this digression once again reminds us why a swap is part of boundary discussions and not some unrelated administrative action.

It's both. The proximity consideration in boundary processes is about maximizing walking/minimizing bus times. Current budget constraints mean that the SB also has to consider the total number of bus routes in drawing the maps.

If people behaved themselves like mature, respectful adults, they probably would have done it that way. But since the poor behavior of those communities have derailed things in the past and they have the option to do it differently, they are.
