Sidwell football article in post....what are the parents saying?

Yeah, ask Bullis parents how supportive of having a legitimate sports program Tom Farquhar was at Bullis. They almost threw a party the day he announced he was leaving.

I've found Tom to be very supportive of the sports program at SFS thus far. As for Bullis, sure, there were some disgruntled parents early on -- that's inevitable when you change the culture of a school. But it's pretty clear he left the school in a stronger position overall than it was in when he arrived.

What is your evidence that it is pretty clear that he left the school in a stonger position?

Is enrollment up?
Are teachers staying longer or being asked to leave?
Is the sports program stronger?
Is the academic program stronger?
Are donations up?

Instead of just making a statement, how about some actual numbers that truly show how the school is doing.

Even if Bullis parents didn't like him, that doesn't mean Sidwell parents don't. The fact is Sidwell is a very different school than Bullis. I expect him to be a huge success at Sidwell, perhaps any weakness he had at Bullis will be seen as a real strength at Sidwell. The bottom line is that at Sidwell sports are very, very important, but at the end of the day, it's a rigorous school, not a rigorous sports academy. The vast majority of parents are focused on their kids academic excellence, if we beat Landon or STA in baseball and soccer, well... that's just a plus.

PP here. I would like to say that as a Sidwell parent, I know that STA is a terrific school, in fact, in some ways, does the best job of balancing sports/academics. Although it's a boys school, I don't generally lump it in with Landon and Prep.

Is that why they made him stay on for an additional year after he announced he would be moving to Sidwell? This is a pretty amazing hindsight statement.

Well, there's some improvement this year. Whereas Sidwell got blown out of every game by epic proportions in 2010, they lost narrowly to a terrible team from Virginia last week.

Progress!

Translation from Sidwell parents - "Please don't remind us that we are paying a lot of money for a school with a lesser athletics program".

If one doesn't care about athletics, it's not an issue. If one does, there are much better options in this area.

Why do people get so upset over other people pointing out facts?

Football =/ Athletic Program

Football is but one sport. And, from what I understand, the team that lost over the weekend is mostly Freshman and Sophomores, who lost by less than a touchdown.

In the sports that people actually care about, Sidwell is putrid. Harsh, yes. But that's the honest truth.

So what happened to the freshman/sophomores who were the core of that horrible team last year? Did they all quit the sport and/or transfer? Regardless, losing to RMA by any margin is nothing to boast about.

Says the Landon booster.

So anyone who comments on Sidwell's dismal athletics program MUST have a son at Landon? LOL.
