The new policies have resulted in a drop in standardized testing scores both in general, and a significant drop in URM standardized test scores. This accounts for roughly 30% of the scoring rubric by USNews.

At the tippy top of the rankings, Im sure the margin is narrow and this is enough to drop many spots and will probably result in another drop next year.

Its pretty much just as nonsense as Great Schools rankings.

The drop in ranking highlights the declining standards at TJ. Specifically, without a merit-based entrance test, TJ admissions cannot select merit-based URM students from the pool of URM applicants.

Yes, the drop in rankings was based on 2022 data before they addressed the problems with selection.

You do know that students from the new selection process were already in the school in 2022? And that they contributed to the data used.

You're mistaken. The caliber has gone up since they ended the test buying.

And more dropped out.

Yes. And the FCPS Board said they don’t care. They want representation from every middle school. Let it go.

Exactly they're picking the very top students from each school! This much better than the old system that simply favored wealthy schools where parents could afford to invest in test prep.

Still can't seem to get enough Hispanics, black, poor to apply. Classes required too much homework.

FCPS should create a gifted high school for Black and Hispanics only, lift all homework and assessments and grant "A" to every URM students.

Would you also suggest FCPS create a gifted basketball program for Asian Americans and lower the hoop?

Lol

Bemoaning the US News ranking didn't work. Quick, pivot to something else!

ROFL

You don’t have data to back-up your claims. Just some BS equity drivel that barely masks Asian hate (TJ is less toxic, more deserving students got in). Show us better outcomes or shut up. Right now we have an equity dividend that brought the school from #1 to # 14. Number of remedial math students has gone up manifold. And PSAT for 2025 will be in the public domain in the next 6 months. What you got to show?

Out of total 2500+ applicants, a lower standard Algebra 1 math criteria was chosen to disqualified majority of the 1600+ Asian student applicants, who had higher Geometry/Algebra 2 math. In 2020, just 20+ algebra 1 students were admitted, but with admissions change in 2021, the algebra 1 offers went up to 198+. The US news ranking slide from 1st to 5th, and now to 14th reflects this declined talent in student body.

There was no requirement for G/A2.

So many lies.

You are a racist to call Asian Americans as engaging in test buying. Shame on you.

We were told standard would not be lowered with admissions change.

But, there were teachers' recommendations and tests that disqualified applicants who were unprepared for TJ's usual courses. These criteria happened to be correlated with the students' math level

The individual has been using "test buying" as a cover to malign students enrolled in outside enrichment programs, effectively attacking Asian Americans.
