Jen Hatmaker

And basically it appears that he’s a glorified social media manager but at least he realized he needed a steady stream of income. Jen is just trying to maintain what she comically thinks is an empire but it’s nothing but air built on lies. Poke a pin in that and the entire balloon deflates. It’s so funny to me how these people put content behind a paywall when it’s nothing but dumb ramblings. Why would anyone pay Sarah Bessey for a newsletter? 😂 Why would anyone pay for a me course? It’s just so bizarre to me. You want finances 101? Don’t be suckered into paying for common sense “advice” that you can get for free. Don’t waste your money on a subscription to a newsletter. Start there. And how was Jen in such a financial mess that just shortly afterwards she bought a new car. I’m not sure Dave Ramsey would say to do that. 😂

First off, Brandon got a job because he could no longer ride Jen’s coattails nor could he continue with the preacher grift, given his adultery and unchecked addiction(s)—-NOT because he has some sort of work ethic.

Jen has a job. You may not agree with it or like it, but in 2023 SM influencer is a legitimate job. It ages you when you state otherwise. If you don’t want to be influenced be her, simply unfollow. She likely makes a lot more money than you (and for sure more money than me). I don’t think think her balloon will deflate for a while. It’s a waste of energy and emotion to begrudge Jen for making a living.

I begrudge those who make a living by taking advantage of those who may have mental health problems so she sells them a mecourse or she is a spokesperson for Better Health. I begrudge those who make a living by taking advantage of people by selling them things they can learn for free. It’s called having ethics. Not a WORK ethic but just having ethics and morals in general. Social media influencers who get paid to raise your awareness about a cool restaurant or a fun experience, I’m okay with. She is doing something different than that. She’s legitimately taking advantage of those who may be suffering financially or emotionally and in a vulnerable place and is trying to make money off of them.

100% this. If Jen was only making money in the socials shilling shoes and nighttime face cream regimes that would be one thing, which admittedly while pretty annoying isn’t amoral or predatory, but also she also shills mental health services with weaponized promo codes and packages MeCourses targeting vulnerable, desperate women comprised of basic, common sense content that’s all completely available online for free. If she was ethical and truly cared for her “tribe” she’d just post links to resources, like a poster says above.

If a friend came to you who was recently divorced and in utter despair regarding her finances would you charge for advice and council??

Jen is so so gross. Just seeing her fake, predatory smile gives me the creeps. She looks like a wolf in sheep’s clothing like villain.

ALL OF THIS!!!

I make a living by hiring social media influencers. And guess what? I don’t hire people who aren’t ethical. I’ve been asked to compromise my values and I’ve simply said no. Did I lose money? Yup. But I can sleep at night.

I saw a really cute Able purse at a store the other day and didn’t buy it because Jen Hatmaker advertises for them.

Whatever Jen is going thru at any given moment, her first thought seems to be how can I make money off of this, let me count the ways. Whether it’s real, exaggerated, based on half truths, truly traumatic, completely insignificant, she has a podcast, me course, link, promotion, whatever. How many has she done on how many repeated subjects thrown back on her divorce, which seems the grift that keeps on giving.

That’s because this is her job. Her job is to make her life into money.

I'm gonna agree with this 100.
I'm wondering how many of the PPs who have such a hard time with her "grift" or her "shilling" have husbands who make the money and pay the bills. I get this is where you can come to hate on someone you previously thought hung the moon...but just be honest. Girl is making hay.

I don't have any issues with people trying to monetize their passions, of which Jen doesn't seem to have any. I do actually pay some people through Patreon for content that I find useful and/or entertaining and this is because these are people who are truly passionate about what they do. Jen on the other hand is just fake in every endeavor she does. She writes books that offers advice that she herself doesn't even clearly follow. She pretends her kids are the greatest and her family is the greatest when we've all seen otherwise. So essentially, she's a liar. Let's just get down to brass tacks and call her our for it. Not an embellisher but a flat out liar.

I sincerely believe we should take care of ourselves and seek out professionals and pay for help when we need it, whether that be with our finances, emotional or physical health. Jen is not a professional in any of these areas nor is she even passionate about any of these things. She's just some lady living in Texas who thinks if she can cobble together already existing links to resources (plus a Spotify playlist!) then she can charge people for it.

When I was first introduced to Jen in maybe 2013 or 2014 I thought she was just so down to earth and hilarious. I enjoyed reading her musings. I bought a book or two. And then, she just turned into a completely different person, one who was clearly out for money, fame and whatever power she could get. While I do think there's a specific reason for all of us being here, I can't quite wrap my brain around anyone trying to monetize their entire existence. A passion? Sure. Your entire existence? No.

The exact reason I and so many others have issues with her grift and shilling is due to us having financial literacy. Having it makes us have a heightened awareness of those who are shamelessly trying to exploit others.

Let's not confuse things here. No one is hating on Jen for working, and I find it offensive to suggest that none of us are breadwinners (I've been the primary breadwinner during my entire 20 year marriage).

Hating on the low quality of her content is not the same thing as hating on her for producing content. She used to provide relatable observations on motherhood and friendship. She stopped being relatable to me when she couldn't manage working and motherhood without frequent porch bed days and a "fan club" constantly fawning all over her. She also stopped being inspiring when it was clear she gave zero craps about her community (see her pandemic behavior).

I feel like her toxic positivity and lack of self awareness completely trashed her brand.

Her latest fangirls, the wokish mob, are 1000x more demanding than the most fundamentalist of her previous fans. They demand this content (her takes.)

Anyone remember her post about 10 years ago, during the FIRST Chick Fil A boycott, and she wrote a post likening it to a tornado, and deciding to hunker down in the basement until it passed. Frankly, that was a wise move because it was so sensational.

But now? Jen has to have a take on EVERY issue the media trots out. How many times will she and Big Sass have a sad dinner out because of X Y or Z happening in the US? Because she jumped on a treadmill with no stop button.

Even her simple ‘movie and wine night with friends’-post reveals how obnoxious she is. anyone here whose husband would think it was funny if he came home after a long day and wanted to sleep in his own bed, but his wife and her friends were taking it for a movie, so we had to go to sleep elsewhere in the house, and then he finds a wine stain on his comforter the next morning? Would anyone’s husband think that was funny? Charming? Silly? My hubby is one of the coolest and kindest men I know, and he definitely would not. How about parents here… Would anyone think that was cute if teenagers and their friends did that to your comforter (fine, with coke, not wine)? So why is it cute for the adult women to act like that? 🙄

The woke mob is a myth. It’s propaganda. Turn off the OAN Network and Faux News. I love that you have convinced yourself that a bunch of middle aged moms who believe in equal rights demand constant content from Jen Hatmaker. 🤣🤣🤣

If you believe the propaganda about “the woke mob” that’s actually pretty insightful. You are clearly highly impressionable to the media you consume. You went all in on Jen Hatmaker and so her evolution feels personal to you (and you and you and you on this thread).
