Bathing Infants and Daycare

Anonymous
DS is 6 months old and started at daycare full time last month. I typically wouldn't bathe him everyday if he was home with me, but can't seem to get past the need to bathe him every evening after daycare. He doesn't have sensitive skin and enjoys bath time, but it's just one more thing on the to-do list each night (have an older child as well) and I'm trying to simplify. I love our daycare and his teachers but just feel like he is dirty by the end of the day after sharing toys, swings, bouncers, etc with a room full of other kids and being passed around and held by multiple teachers.

Do other working parents bathe their infants every night after daycare or limit it to just a few times per week? Why or why not...?

We bathe every night but it's just part of her bedtime routine. We use a lot of lotion and watch her skin. I think do whatever he enjoys and you feel like doing. I also think you'll care less in a month or two.

Every night. It's part of our routine and plus my kid is one of those who poops a million times a day. I just feel better giving him a bath, especially knowing he's been on the floor at daycare all day, even though they are a "no shoes' center. The main thing though, is that he loves it!

we have always bathed our kids every night. Especially around that age when the start eating solids and get really dirty.

I bathe my kid every night after daycare precisely because I want to get rid of the germs. If it saves me two colds a year it will be worth it.

We never did.

Our kid comes home cleaner from daycare every day than if he spends the day at home with us...

We bathe every two or three days but also only use soap on his bum or if he's actually dirty.

Oh yeah, first PP here - we rarely use actual soap.

We usually bathed the baby every night, but not because of daycare. It's just part of our nightly routine. If it feels like too much, you could just wash his hands and face.

We bathe about 3 times per week and more as necessary; every single day seems overkill

We would probably bathe our baby twice a week, but his daycare caregiver seems to bathe him most days before his afternoon nap so we mostly don't bother at home.

My DS is 18 months and has been in daycare since 4 months. I can see why you might feel the need for a daily bath but I bathe him every other day (unless he gets extra dirty for some reason).

We do at most every 2-3 days for our infant in daycare. The 3 yr old gets somewhat more frequently. There are only so many hours in the day, especially given that the baby starts going down about a half hour after we get home.
