| Any suggestions on where to go for an evaluation that I don't have to wait until the fall to get into? |
| Many places as long as you are willing to pay out of pocket. The long wait is for insurance coverage. |
| Ideally would prefer if the evaluation cost less than 3,000. |
| And I assume you also want a quality evaluation. You can't have everything. |
| Paula Elitov in Rockville is excellent and she doesn't have a long wait. |
| Call Children's. The only wait is long but if they put you on the cancellation list it might be very fast. I know it was for my son. Children's is covered by most insurance. |
| ^don't know how "only" got in there. I meant to say the waitlist is long. The cancellation list can shorten your wait by months. |
Same with KKI. We recently call Stixrud and were told they were scheduling into the summer, so even out of pocket is not a guarantee (we're on the younger end though, and thus I think fewer providers are good options for us, may be easier if your kid is older). But got into KKI within 3? months via the cancellation list. Also try Children's outpatient locations - generally a shorter wait in, say, Rockville, than at the main hospital. It was a 6ish month wait a few weeks ago in Rockville - which still gives you an eval before next school year (though that is not "soon" by any stretch). |
| Dr. David Black's practice? |
|
Mt Washington Pediatric Hospital - it's a joint venture between JHU and UMD and my pediatrician really recommends them.

Last year I called Stixrud in June and got an appointment in September. They were excellent, and wrote the report so that my child could obtain services from his school, by including a handy list at the end in a language corresponding to the MCPS-speak, instead of the formal medical names of his disorders (which were in the report already). Very good attention to detail there. OP, it's worthwhile to wait for a reputable psych to evaluate your child. |
| Different background on child - need neurophy eval for learning issues we called Sixtrud in January and got testing times in early March. We are paying out of pocket but they have worked with us on finding times as we didn't want to wait until the summer if we can start to implement changes during the school year to help out our DS. |
+1 I have a child with Asperger's/ADHD and highly recommend him. Dr. Black will also attend IEP meetings and advocate for your child. Our school gave us everything he recommended in the IEP. His services have been invaluable to DS and DS is doing great and loves school. There is a long wait but well worth it. |
And he's well over $3,000. But excellent We did not pay to have him go to the IEP meeting, but we got everything we wanted just on the strength of his written report. |
He charged us $4400 for the neuropsych and ~$600 to attend the IEP meeting. We paid for him to attend because it was our 3 yr renewal for an IEP and Dr. Black found ADHD in addition to the ASD which wasn't not recognized in the previous IEP. Worth every penny and still cheaper than private SN school. |
