Just curious- age and time?

14. No set bed time. Left to his own devices, he would prefer to sleep from 4:00 am until 2 p.m.
Since that's not possible (unless school is closed for 9 straight days!) he usually manages 11 to 7 with a nap after school. |
she's a month she of 13. she's probably got the lights out around 10, if homework isn't keeping her up. She's ALWAYS been a night owl.
12.5 and 11 - lights out at 9pm.
12.5-- 8:30ish, up at 6:30
Not sure how people get their middle schoolers to school so early. My kids aren't even home from activities some nights until after 8 or later. It's a great night if my 12 year old has lights out at 9:30. My high schooler is around 10:45.
I meant how they get them to bed so early, not school so early.
My kids don't have that many activities. DS plays one rec sport per season. Soccer times are reasonable but yes, he goes to bed later during baseball season because games run quite late but that's an exception to the routine. He's it the school band, which has no evening requirements except occasional concerts. He participates in church youth group which meets one evening a week but he's home by 8:30. DD has a similar schedule with one sport that has 1 weeknight practice (home by 8:30), school band, an art class on the weekend. They both have time to do homework before they go to any evening activity. Sufficient sleep is important to us so if they wanted to do something that meant they would frequently be out until 9pm+ for the long term we'd probably say no. |
We aim for 9:30 for my almost 14 year old. Sometimes there are late activities and it's later - he wants to be able to stay up as late as he wants but I'm worried about him waking me up to say good night (as I like to be in bed by 10) and also him staying up watching mindless TV until 11 and then being too tired for school. When do parents just give up and hope their kids figure out when to get enough sleep?
My almost 14 year old has a 10:30 bedtime on school nights that he complains about. I don't really care how long he stays up in bed. But he does tend to fall asleep once he's actually in bed, as opposed to not.
My 12 and 14 year olds go to bed around 10:30-10:45 and get up at 7.
In middle school bedtime was 9 and high school 10:00. My now 15 year old complained about 9:00, but both kids, 15 and 17, seem to be fine with 10pm. They get up around 7.
6th grader - in bed by 9:30 lights out 10 p.m. LATEST (we try for earlier). up at 7 and on the bus at 7:30.
I no longer make my 17yo go to bed at any set time. I'm usually in bed long before her. The only thing I will complain about is if she is falling asleep on the couch instead of going to bed. It's like she's 4 again, and constantly says how she is not sleepy in between yawns. I also don't wake her up in the mornings. Natural consequences if she is late for school. She'll be in college in 6.5 months and will have to figure this out on her own.
about 12.5...try to get in bed at 900 to read for 30 min, lights out 930. it's very hard to get that on weeknights with sports practices, but we try. on weekends I let him stay up until about 10 or so. he will sleep a solid 11-12 hours if he can.
