| I've seen 2 posters say CMI is expanding enrollment next year (one said in K). Does anyone know if this is true? |
| Yes. |
| Really? Link please. All I have heard at this point is expansion into middle school. |
| Isn't it just that the extra class they previously added will be in K next year? So they are slowly moving from 2 to 3 classes per grade, but the only year you will see more spots is PK3, because everyone else just moves up. |
| No link, the principal just sent the email out this week (wow, gossip) that there would be slight enrollment increase in grades K-6 (the current grades). No change in the size for PS and PK. |
Not a CMI parent, but DCPCSB will have to vote on this(I'm assuming it is upcoming because I watch the agendas pretty regularly). I'm guessing this means class sizes will increase not new classes added. The 17 kids/ class I'm guessing is challenging to both pay the bills and sustain for future growth. |
Correct, my understanding is CMI is requesting an increase, probably to maintain all the fancy extra programs they have. |

LOL. The old bait and switch.
"I love the small class sizes. It's like private school!" |
What ever happened to only expanding successful Tier 1 schools? CMI hasn't proven itself. |
| They are expanding the preschool/prek classes to 18 students and k-8 to 20 kids per class. Still pretty low ratios, imo. |
I went to private school, there were 22 kids in my 5th grade class. It's still small class sizes, it's just larger than before. |
20 kids per class? I remember CMI parents looking down on other charters that have 22 kids per class. Do they even need charter approval to expand classes (since they haven't reached their ceiling yet)? Does this mean CMI will have more funds to pay for more experienced teachers or are they using funds for facilities? |

There is a whole bunch of detail on the PCSB site here: http://www.dcpcsb.org/public-comment. It looks to me like the increase is primarily for facilities and more administrative support.
Most interesting to me: -Target of 18 kids per class for PK3 and PK4, but including a "buffer" request that could permit up to 20 kids in those classes. -Enrollment ceiling of 730, including up to 70 kids in a "satellite" classroom program. |
Our DCPS has 20 kids per class in k-5. |
| 77 kids over the next 10 years? Hardly anything to get your panties in a bunch over people. |
