Would you date a woman who didn't play video games?

Anonymous
Early 30s guy here, and lately I've noticed a lot of women I end up on dates with simply don't play video games. At all. Generally I associate people not playing video games with them being terrible bores who don't really want much out of life (to take an entire medium of art, one as rich and vibrant as music or literature if not more so, and just write it off entirely is a fairly extreme act), so I treat it as a major deal-breaker, but I'm curious if there are others who disagree. I'd do the same if they issued a blanket statement like "I don't listen to music" or "I don't read fiction" too, obviously.

Is this for real?

I know a guy who feels this way. He's approaching 40 and single. You might be able to find someone if you aggressively search for a gamer in your early 20s and marry that person. But the pool narrows considerably at 30 and you need to be more open minded or be ok with being single.

I'd rather be single than settle for someone trite and conventional, personally -- since, frankly, a lot of very hot women are very interested in sleeping with me without demanding a commitment. But finding a real partner would certainly be nice.

Women here. A guy who plays video games over the age of 18 is a deal breaker for me. I don't want to marry a child. To each their own.

The original Xbox was targeted at 18-25 years olds and that was 15 years ago. Today... It seems like video games are very popular with both men and women in their 20s...

Just saying...

I love video games but I hate reading fiction so I guess I am out.

I don't get video games; I don't read fiction; music is... meh. I like the classical station in my car, but I would never sit in a chair and actively listen to anything.

Not a chance with OP. Oh well, my loss

(Seriously, is this for real?)

You read my mind, and if the OP is from the DC area, look at the time of the post.

My fiancé does. He sometimes plays with my college age DD. He and I shoot real guns together.

Lol. I think it's "trite and conventional" to sit in your home glued to a screen. Interesting people live their lives.

Keep in mind that it wasn't until the last 10-15 years that video games were even targeted to females. So many women in your age group just weren't exposed to it like you were. I wouldn't be so quick to write someone off because of it but look to see if they are open to trying it out.

As you get older, the supply of women willing to sleep with you may dry up. Plus, there is a lot more to a relationship than fucking. I am male. I like video games, but mostly play them on my computer. I also don't see them as a social enterprise, but rather an escape for me.

My wife can't stand them. They are not part of our relationship. Just like I don't like old movies. There are things we like to do together, and things we don't.

I can't imagine how shallow a life would be if the driving binding force was video games....
