However at US Clubs side I see at least 4 tiers: ECNL, ECRL, NPL1, NPL2 …, so more leagues, more clubs, more players, and consequently more money.

ECNL will be rebranding pretty soon. Next year they will invite more teams into ECNL and have a relegation league. Let’s call it ECNL2 but will still be considered ECNL. Lots of these changing next year not just age groups.

When you say next year do you mean 2026/27?

Yes, will be bringing in full RL leagues (non ECNL affiliated) into ECNL. Which lines up with the possibility they are losing clubs to GA if a merger with MLSN really happens if not you can add more teams which means more money at showcases and also start a relegation a better system.

This is what I was told by a private trainer my daughter works with he is an ECNL director.

ECNL already did that for 25-26. Check out ECNL-RL Twin Cities. It’s team-based (not club-based).

ECNL and US Club have done a good job of building an eco system of youth soccer with levels from Top to Bottom.

MLSN is catching on which is why they created MLSN2 and GA started the Aspire league. Don’t be surprised to see a MLSN3 and a MLSNY (Youth) with U9-12 teams playing in games and cups.

MLSN does not have the capacity to do that. They aren't even running MLSN2 (they just gave the branding out and the league is actually multiple leagues being run by other orgs).

While I generally agree that MLSN is the 'best' boy's league, anyone who has been involved with them for any amount of time knows how understaffed, unprepared and generally barely capable of doing what they're doing now let alone adding on.

If they decide to continue the route of just giving out their branding to random regional youth leagues (in attempt to accomplish this) it will ultimately damage their image and be counter productive.

It is time to shit or get off the pot for MLSN. Next few months will be telling.

My guess is GA staff still run the league but GA becomes the official girls affiliate of MLSN. I have no idea how it all will workout but I’ve been told it’s already a done deal.

Aren’t they already? I hope some of the organization and communication from GA rubs off on mlsnext.

Yeah, they are basically doing this now. And 100% on the org/comms. MLSN has the poorest communications and organization of any league out there. If they weren't affiliated with the MLS they never would have gotten off the ground.

I’ve never heard of soccer admins having poor communication skills….

They have a partnership currently however MLSN will fully take over GA and begin their own governance.

Seems like more of a formality than reality. GA already announced SY so I doubt they go back. That said, they will need to operate relatively independently for some time. I don’t think this changes much in the foreseeable future. It would be great if ecnl adds relegation. I suppose it’s possible but seems complex to operate at least when thinking about the DMV and all the alliances. For example, FVU would dissolve if they got relegated. I don’t see them around in a couple of years to get promoted back.

GA is staying SY. Much more likely that mlsnext goes SY than GA reverts back to BY. All of soccer will be 8/1 as of 26/27, just waiting on decision from mlsnext.

Why would they want to do that? They're terrible at it. If they want to tank any of the inroads GA has made on ECNL than this is the way.

Taking into consideration that some tryouts in CA are pretty near in tome, anybody knows when would be MLSNEXT's deadline for making/announcing a final decision?

In many state and regional ODP environments over the last few years, coaches have already been informally (and sometimes formally) separating players within an age group based on biological or physical maturity. Even though teams are officially built by birth year, ODP sessions often sort players into:

Younger/late-maturing groups

Older/early-maturing groups

This is usually done to make evaluations more accurate and to prevent early-maturing players from being over-selected just because they’re physically ahead.

Two months ago. But seriously, it seems like the latest they can announce this would be after the holidays. CA seems to have some younger age tryouts in Feb (U13/14). But it looks like most MLSN clubs do their tryouts (for U14 and above) in early spring.
