The reason all of the data is considered and not just the test scores is that people in this area tend to try to "prep" their kids for everything so they score higher than they would otherwise.
If a child had high test scores but a moderate or low recommendation and average classwork they might be denied on the assumption that their test scores are not an accurate representation of their ability. |
I do see your point however, in my case, DC was not prepped in anyway and the teacher was wrong. DC is excelling at the AAP center this year. |
yeah well who isn't? Not that tough really. A little compacted math and some more in-depth type assignments than regular school and that's about it. Was happy my kid got in, but DC reports to me it isn't nearly as challenging as was expected. I have heard they don't boot anyone out, so once you're in your in regardless if whether the kid excels or not. |
Exactly. The central screening committee is looking for an overall assessment and not just test scores. |
We received in-pool letter and Cogat test results in separate mail from Navy ES today !!! |
what is the Cogat score? Do you know what is the cutoff for this year? |
It looks like we won't get ours until next Wednesday at the earliest. The front office person said she was working on them today and they wouldn't be done until Tuesday due to the holiday. |
Are parents allowed to see the GBRS before or after the package is submitted or are they private? |
Has anyone got the NNat score yet? |
We met with our local AART to see the packet (including the GBRS) that was submitted to the central selection committee, but we could not see anything until after the referral deadline had passed. |
Yes. We received ours today. |
We haven't gotten our 1st grader's NNAT yet. |
![]() Maybe you should pull him out & just send him to MIT. |
Truly curious, whats the big deal that a kid "makes it into a GT pool" other than for the parents to brag about how all 4 kids are doing well in AAP blah blah. on internet boards. It all seems just prepping to score high and slogging from a young age in the rat race to prove some obscure point. What will all these geniuses end up doing or are we really dumbing up with coached 99th percentile "abilities" and competitive, prescriptive learning?
FWIW, got my older kid's 1st grade NNAT2 which is 2 SDs over mean, so not really a case of sour grapes... |
