| I'm okay taking it down to a 1 mile walk zone. I suspect in reality, that's probably the outer limit before parents start to drive anyway. I think the School Board boxed itself into a corner when they said "no new islands" but said they were going to consider demographics and proximity in the six factors. The only way to preserve walk zones and create real demographic balance (more than just tinkering around the edges of Kenmore) is to create new islands. |
Come on now -- the furthest reach of one of those DH PUs is Patrick Henry and Wilson -- which is still less than a mile to Swanson. The furthest part. Why don't you try plugging in Patrick Henry and Wilson into a map and then revisit your statement about it being 1 mile to Kenmore. Google maps is a handy tool. |
yes it is- try again. Kenmore is closer than you think. 800 N. Arlington Mill drive. .9miles to Swanson. .9miles to Kenmore. that's what I like to call equidistant between two schools. |
| The address of Kenmore is 200 S Carlin Springs Rd, Arlington, VA 22204. Nice try. Are you a troll or something? |
Good to know that Kenmore suddenly moved itself to BonAir park. LOLZ. |
Split/change the PUs. No kid within 1/2 mile of a school should be bussed farther away. |
But it’s also not like they are trying to shop you across the county to Jefferson (which I know you would fight and I agree), but would you be as upset if they were shopping you to Stratford? There are some inconsistencies across the county because the schools are located where APS has land, not necessarily where the schools need to be. ASFS boundary? Campbell/Claremont/Carlin Springs. Discover and Jamestown too close. The fact is that there may be some kids who get buses a bit further. 1/2 mike should be sacrosanct, but even then, we might still see anamolies. |
| Shipping not shopping (although it might feel that way) |
DP, yes I would have an issue busing my kids to Stratford. My DH family has a 7min walk to Swanson, it's less than 5min when I run my dog, and I see zero reason to put my kid on a bus anywhere. |
