But aren't the Edison classrooms being occupied by Edison students? |
There have been cluster rep and community association and municipality emails/communications. But nothing on the record just yet because the first BOE meeting after the superintendent's recommendation specifically to discuss Woodward is tomorrow. But those in the position of supporting the Superintendent recommendation clearly will not be as loud as those in farmland who care about their property values |
Only part time. so there's the other part, silly |
Strategy is to hold cards close if you are in the advantaged position. No need to battle it out publicly. Need to see what happens at the mtg. Rubber stamp is my guess. |
+1 Yea, it's playing the hot potato with VM or WW. They could only stomach 1 poor, brown school, not 2! boo hoo "We want parity and equity waaaa" |
Sounds like you support the Superintendent's recommendation? Is that the sentiment in the broader Wheaton cluster? |
I don’t know. If there is only one voice and the BOE doesn’t see through the hypocrisy, everyone may be in for a surprise. Hard to ignore the line of people in front of you with the same practiced NIMBY sob story. |
That’s fine but then certainly no one should be on this thread trashing them, if that were true. |
Disagree. They're ignoring the folks in Wootton study with no issue. They're about to be re-located despite the broad outcry. And I'm sure they're not the only voice...they're getting emailed by people who support the Superintendent too. Just no need for them to make a pointless change dot org petition or humiliate themselves publicly with clearly racist testimony. |
Isn't that the point of DCUM? it's fun. |
Farmland petitions boil down to them only wanting White (and model minority Asians) only for their district. They can only stomach 12% Hispanic and 8% Black and 18% Farms. not a smidge more!!! they should volunteer themselves for Wheaton rather than volunteering other communities to move. |
No, I am not in the Wheaton or proposed WJ/Woodward clusters. I think it would be better to balance FARMS between Woodward and WJ because that is what would be best for the kids. But I don't expect Taylor or the BOE to do this, and I kind of get it, it's certainly not a magic bullet. I am frustrated that I don't see any urgency on their part in terms of improving outcomes for low income kids and this feels like low hanging fruit. Wrt Wheaton capacity I am concerned as a taxpayer that they are promising capacity that doesn't exist and requires more spending to create. Spending that there is no money for. There is plenty of capacity in the existing buildings, and the entire purpose of the boundary study is to use that capacity, so they should do it. Even the Superintendent's recommendation leaves Wheaton somewhat over capacity. At the proposed utilization level I can kind of buy that some of that will be relieved by students attending Edison part time, but it's still insane to me they aren't doing more to relieve Wheaton. People will be angry in the short term and then they will get used to the new boundaries and be fine. |
Or say they want to be sent to WJ. and give Woodward to the DCC once and for all. easy. |
Two things: 1. you ignore the regional model will balance kids out between the 4 schools in the region. 2. you expect utopia or perfection. that won't happen and can't happen due to logistical challenges and increased expense. |
I certainly don’t expect any better! But I do think it is gross to come on a forum and anonymously trash people by name. It is cowardly. |
