Waitlist movement

Bruno is having a rough yield year.

Colleges seem to underestimate how kids feel about switching schools so late in the game (after graduation ceremonies, they have found a roommate, etc.).

UCs have been really quiet. No waves in the past two weeks. Nothing out of Cal. UCSD only a few bio and cog sci, only one wave for
UCSB and UCD, UCI quiet and not much even from UCSC.

They may have all over admitted in fear of Trump stuff and then underestimated the yield. I really hope they don’t turn around in end of July early August and start admitting people.

It's possible that several schools are doing just what you suggest, holding off on waitlist admissions until there is more certainty in their incoming enrollment. Hard to say whether that's underestimating, overestimating, or a planned strategy to sit tight in the face of uncertainty.

FWIW: From posts here and elsewhere, it sounds like Brown and Northwestern purposefully under-admitted this year with a plan to shape the remaining class through the wait list.

Tufts waitlist is finally moving, after they said their class was full three weeks ago.

I think a lot of places that didn’t think they would go to WL are now.

I gotta think hesitant International students? Maybe deferring ?

I'll believe it when my high stats full pay OOS kid gets off the WL.

It likely was until some kids left for other waitlist offers.

Someone we know just got off the WL for Williams.

Still hopeful for Yale!

I wish they could move the whole process up a month. So commitments required by April 1st, then the WL movement is done before summer. It is so disruptive.

Schools that waitlisted a lot of students may end up scrambling to fill empty seats over the summer. After students have submitted housing deposits, found roommates, attended orientation, and told people where they will be going to college, they aren’t likely to change plans at the last minute for another school that didn’t want them initially unless it’s a much better deal. Schools may have to offer $ to get students in the door.
